To answer a few questions. E85 and methanol are different. E85 is 85% ethanol and 15% gas. Ethanol cools well, and is very detonation resistant. However the big reason i like ethanol is it isn't nearly as corrosive as methanol. Seems like if you run meth that crap will sit and eat up everything metal it touches and always plugs up.
However running on straight methanol will make more power than ethanol, but meth takes about twice as much fuel as gas. Ethanol only needs about 35% more.
Also e85 does vary in the pump cause they add more gas during the winter. But the difference only makes about half a point on the a/f which i bet most peoples tunes are off by that much already, so it isn't a big deal. The big thing with e85 is to make sure it is fresh because it will absorb moisture.

Methanol is very corrosive. We run it in 2 stroked carb applications. If you don't purge the motor with gas, then the methanol will sit in the carb and eat away at it. Plus since it holds moisture in it very well. So in the 2 strokes with gas being in the crank the methanol will take out the bearings and cylinders by causing them to rust from the moisture.
Not only that but running it through fuel injectors will eat them up quick. If left sitting in there it will corrode away the parts inside the injector, eat up the seals etc... Methanol is some nasty crap. Ethanol on the other hand I don't have nearly as many issues. I can let it sit over winter in a motor then fire it up with out any issues. Do that with methanol and you will be replacing most parts it touches.
