That vendor is somewhat local to me. I have bought a few things from him including a ly5 for $125 that looks brand new. His shop is super clean and well organized. The $125 late model short blocks has brought a whole new facet in the budget boosting lol

Man my 5.3 went the same as yours every time I looked at it I found more and more dirt and grim and had bad main an rod bearings. My cam bearings didnt come out with the cam tho lol.
Im finally about to put my motor back together tonight. I put new cam bearings in had the crank turned 10/10 new bearings.
My plan was to pull it out of the wrecked tahoe I bought and drop it in my swb and run it but that didnt happen.

And on my iron block what works really good is oven cleaner. Spray it on thick and let it set for thrity minutes and power wash it off. I found the cheap wal mart electric power washer work really well then a little carb cleaner and stiff brush on some bad areas wirer brush on the out side of the block. Then I prepped the decks and gasket serfice with 80 grit then 120 then 220 with wd and a piece of 2x3 tubing. And honed the cylinders cleaned again really good with carb cleaner taped off and a can of engine primer and paint. Turned out really really good!
