Default How to cut silicone so it looks nice?

I will be adding an air to air intercooler next week. I have always wrapped the silicone elbow's with masking tape and took a razor to cut off any extra. The problem is that it looks like dog crap. What are you guys using or doing so that when you cut off a couple inches off of the silicone elbows, couplers, etc....it leaves a nice edge like when you buy them.

I did a search but only found the way I have been doing them. They arrive new with nice clean edges and are obviously cut to the proper length, so surely there is a cleaner way to remove a couple inches. I need to remove about 4" of one end of the 6" legs on the elbow.

Thanks.

Metal hose clamp to keep it straight and a sharp razor has worked well for me

I used masking tape and a sharp razor. Looks just like the "factory" cut ends.

THIS!

Or, i have a pair of shears that work fantastic, since you can cut the coupler in one cut.

After I cut them with a razor blade they always look like crap too. What I do is go over the edges with an air powered sanding disk to smooth them out.

Bah, Youre all over thinking it. Do like I do, cut it reasonably well and put the clamp right over the cut on the end, that is if your pipes are bead rolled. Been doing it for years and have never lost at boot @ 18psi.

cmon guys, this is easy stuff.

cut yourself out a piece of metal tubing the same dia as the ID of the silicone hose. weld in a little pipe inside it, for a handle to pull it out of the silicone when you are done.

slide that thing in the silicone and put a clamp on the outside to hold it all together. Use a new razorblade and cut the hose along the pipe thats inside. It acts a a perfect guide to keep the cuts straight. Dont use a sanding disc on the end or it will frey all the reinforcing strings.

Voila, silicone hose ends that dont look like a beaver chewed it off
