i may look into using it. but like i said, im leaning away from ls and looking into big block. less boost, more power with less effort. fuel economy goes out the window though

I would say yes you can achieve your power goals on pump gas alone. However, it will require very good intercooling and a lower compression than many might like. This will keep you away from detonation to allow you to use a sensible amount of ignition timing to make the power. Is it the preferred option ? not generally, but it will still work, and has worked for others for decades across many different engines.

And has already been answered several times. Meth usage/longevity depends on pump, nozzle size, tank size, when you inject and ultimately how often you actually put your foot down in such a manner as to actually be injecting.

I generally only inject water/meth when racing, so a 6-7 litre tank on the street would last me forever...simply because I dont use it there. I already have far more power than I do traction on the street, so the added power via meth is of no use.
When racing with suitable tyres and high traction surface, then I can make better use of any extra power.

IMO a 2.5-3 gallon tank ( AIS tanks are the best ) should last you a very long time, unless you drive like a complete lunatic all the time.
with 1000hp on the street i will be a complete lunatic!

With that sort of power, there really is only a very short period of time you can put your foot down before things get rather silly.

If you're car has room for a big block, and you're happy with the slightly extra fuel usage then of course it will yield power more easily, and likely be more reliable. It is a much bigger motor after all.

Big blocks run good - real good. But, you need a cam in them to get to come alive. My 502 has another 100hp in it easily, but I hate the rough idle of even the 224/228 112lsa cam thats in there. What turned me on to the turbo LS thing is the factory idle and double the mpg. Otherwise, it is a lot less complicated running a nasty BBC.

Question for guys in the know....

If E85 uses apprx 30% more fuel, and the increase in fuel system setup costs, is just running pump gas and a couple of gallons of race fuel mixed-in deliver the same end-result??? I know race fuel is very expensive - so take it easy

Running 10-20% methanol mix with your pump gas is a cheap alternative to better fuel, and no risk of the methanol system failing.
You will need to build in some extra flow capacity in your fuel system to accommodate it, and after tuning ensure this same mix ratio is repeated at every fill up.

There is no limit to the amount of boost or power that can be made with pump gas. You just drop your compression and add more boost until what ever your goal is is met and/or your parts can't handle the stress.

For example...

"Built" 400 SBC.

(quoted from andy dorsett)

They are likely grossly inaccurate but demonstrate the point.

10:1 432Hp N/A 638Hp@7psi
9:1 414Hp N/A 780Hp@13psi
8:1 396Hp N/A 962Hp@21psi
7:1 378Hp N/A 1201Hp@32psi
Good discussion on this over on TTF.
