Default 5.3 block machined to a.....????

Well to make a long story short I tried doing a 5.3 build for my 2001 T/A. Well with the amount of rust in the cylinders its been decided to have the block machined. The biggest I was told that block can be taken to is 383? Also what do you guys then would be ideal between stock and there?

I am using a 76mm turbo with a full fuel system and everything to make this scream. It is not a drag car just going to be a fast street car with occasional track time a mostly street driven.

Would it be ideal to go in the middle for save cylinder wall clearance? Such as a 364 or 370?

Common would be 3.903-3.905 bore for 5.7 or 347 ci. And you can use the crank you got still

The difference between a 347 ci and 383 ci is the crank (4" stroke) bore is the same.

The issue with 5.3's is there aren't too many off the shelf pistons for them. This is why people are boring them to 3.905" (347" w/ stock stroke or 383' with a 4" stroke). Plenty of choices when you go all the way out to ls1 size bore....but on the other hand this is eliminating the point of having a 5.3 IMO, that is the thicker cylinder walls.

Yes that is the only one I can think of. May not be the desired compression with that particular piston though.

Wiseco has 2 basic choices in the JY series. High compression and low compression for use with the stock rods.

Or, use an aftermarket rod with a a piston that falls in between.

Here is their info:

Note that compression ratio is based on a pretty small chamber size.
And, they do make a piston for a 4" stroke crank.

Glad to see Wiseco is making more piston options now.

So by making it a 347 in a sense what kind of power can be obtained with this? I want the best option for everything. I just know there are so many options out there for this.

Instead of putting the money towards machine work/pistons/rings/balancing/etc ($$$!) you could just get another 5.3 short block.

Get another short block and put the money you saved into heads and cam for the most benefit/dollar. As is, a 5.3 is good for up to 1000 rwhp with enough boost.
