Good news is that I drove the car around town and it made it back home. I must be getting old because the front fender exhaust is way to loud for me. I needed to redo the exhaust any way since it looked like butt from the front of the car. I think I will do a 3" into 2 2.5's and try to exit in front of the rear tires. I will throw a cutout into the mix so I can hopefully run some decent mufflers to quiet it down alot and open the cutout when I go to the track.
Bad news is that my Craigslist transmission leaks like the Titanic.
The car is back on jack stands. I pulled the trans yesterday and orderd a deluxe rebuild kit, a book on TH 400's, and have been watching YouTube videos and reading about dual feed mods and such.
Got the trans tore down tonight. I have to work the next few days but hopefully I will get the case cleaned up and be ready to go back together by the end of the week.
So it is officially running. I have drove it to work the last 3 days working on the tune. I have the boost controller set at 5 pounds right now and am digging it. It feels way faster than the old 289/vortech setup that was in it before.
I rebuilt the trans using info from these 2 places and so far I am happy with it. It is my first trans rebuild and it really wasn't that bad. The proof will be in how long it last. I replaced all the bushings, dual feed mod, did the governor delete, and converted it to a forward manual valve body.
Made a trip to the dyno today. I was hoping to turn up the boost, but my Tru-boost was not behaving. I was limited to 5#'s of boost and made 357 to the wheels. I was really wanting to see how much it would make with 12 to 14 pounds, but was not in the cards today. I have a trip to the track planned on Nov. 15 so hopefully I will have the boost issue sorted by then.
Made it to the track yesterday. I only got 4 passes in before the weather shut us down. The best run ended up being 11.66 at 115 leaving off the foot brake.
Not completely. I have it making 10#'s now. I am going to tap the turbo housing to get a signal from there and hope that will fix the controller part. I am just running off of the waste gate spring now.
Thanks. Felt good to go down a track, it has been lots of years since I have made a pass. Hopefully come spring I can get some decent 60 foot times and work on my reaction times some. Ohh and a few more pounds of boost.
Have you weighed it yet? Very slick build. Should be 130+ trap screamer turned up.
I haven't weighed it yet. I am adding some weight right now. Me and a buddy just put an 8 point roll bar in it and I am putting in some Peel and Seal as sound deadner trying to quite it down inside so the kid can ride with me more. Also trying to get it able to pass tech for Pinks All Out. I signed up for the 11 second class In July.
I was thinking of signing up for the 11 sec class, ran Pinks and Pass time in Md-sounds like a cool week down there
I may come down for a couple days W/O the car if I don't race
Cool build. Your engine combo sounds similar to what I want to do. How do you like it so far driving it around town? Have you done another dyno session since you have the boost issue resolved?
I haven't been back to the dyno yet. I really enjoy driving the car around. I try to DD it as long as it is not raining. I drove it to work a few times this winter when it was in the high teens temperature wise. The LS9 kills some power down low, but I don't notice as much with a light car.
I have the boost controller set on 12#'s and the fun is just a pedal mashing away. Me and a buddy just installed an 8 point roll bar and I put in lots of sound deadner so it is even nicer to drive around now.
