New engine build: need suggestions
Building a 346 from an LS6 block. Stock crank, Callies rods, Wiseco pistons. 243 heads, ls6 manifold and TB, 1 3/4 headers. Cam specs aren't decided yet, but will be aggressive. Will also have a D1 Procharger. Goal is 600-650whp pn 93 pump gas through a stalled/built 4l60 and for now, a 10 bolt rear end.
My questions are: cam spec suggestions? Will it be beneficial to porting the heads/manifold/TB with boost? Will I need meth injection (I currently have it but will remove it if I don't need it)? How much boost will I need?
My fuel system is limited me to 650whp but I may uprgrade it one day and push the D1 to its limits. At what boost level will I need race gas? How many rpm should this motor be good for will proper valvetrain in place? Thanks.

As far as porting goes yes it will be worth it. Are you wanting a very agressive cam? Will this car be a daily driver or just a weekend toy? By running race fuel this could mean it wont be a daily? You can run meth anytime if you please, cooler air temperatures and safer high timing will be worth it. As long as your fuel system is capable of supporting you can switch over to race fuel. I would run E85 then again you will need big injectors and a good fuel system. I hope that 10bolt holds though, I would switch over to a 9" rear end.
Contact Martin at Tick Performance for some goo help regarding your cam specs. He has great boost cams.

Thanks man, car is a nice weather ride only but has to be pump gas capable. I'd love to run E85 (especially on the Cobra in my sig) but it isn't readily available where I'm at. I may very well run the meth, I was just wondering if I could reach my power goals without it. As far as the cam goes, I'm willing to deal with an aggressive cam cause I don't have to meet emissions/inspection and because it's an auto that I don't drive everyday, so driveability won't be as bad or as much of an issue. Finally, a 12 bolt will be going in when this one breaks but to my surprise, it's been holding up to 506rwhp for a while now.
