start of my 5.3 turbo build
finally found a 5.3 yesterday 80k miles, got it with harness and ecu for $800, not the best deal but im happy with it. Got it home and popped the valve covers hoping not to see massive amounts of sludge and to my suprise it looked very clean, looks like someone may have taken care of it. The plan is a 76mm turbo ( not sure which one so im open to suggestions) 60lb injectors and a cam. Im looking for 500-550 ish whp. Also want to get a ls1 intake or maybe a aftermarket, this is my first ls motor and first turbo build so im goin to take it slow. Gonna keep my eye on the classified section here and hopefully be able to find every thing ill need.

im doing a similar build
just got my 4.8 swapped into my supra and running on e85
was going to do nitrous but have decided to go turbo
from my research and talking with a bunch of people(including my gm tuner)
we agreed on a 76mm turbo, 80lbs injectors, -8 feed and possibly be able to keep my walbro 400 intank pump(this would be the down side of the fuel system)
806 heads ported, 571 lift cam 114 LSA, ls1 intake, hooker cts-v manifolds(supra frame rails are narrow with a v8 ), zr1 headgaskets, studs etc
As far as turbos go
I had a gt45 ebay turbo at 1 time trying to place it in my engine bay but the sucker is so big I'm going with a on3 76mm turbo
Going for 600hp or more

the gt45 is bigger than the on2 76mm? i thought it was the other way around, and i thought the gt45 would be too small for the 5.3, what kinda numbers are people putting down with the gt45?

This post ( https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-in...5-vs-76mm.html ) (halfway down) shows the physical size of a DNA Motoring GT45 (69mm) turbo http://www.ebay.com/itm/GT45-HUGE-V-BAND-1000-HPS-TURBO-TURBOCHARGER-CAMARO-GT-/150581666321?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item230f5de211&vxp=mtr compared to an On3 76mm turbo
The DNA Motoring GT45 has a 69mm compressor and a 77mm turbine vs the ON3 76mm turbo with a 76mm compressor and 65mm turbine
This post (https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-in...turbo-yet.html ) (halfway down) shows the physical size of a GT45 (68mm DNA Motoring) turbo vs a GT45 (80mm CXRacing (also known as Magnum 80 Turbo)). http://www.ebay.com/itm/CXRacing-GT45-GT45R-Ball-Bearing-Turbo-Charger-80mm-wheel-T4-1-15AR-Big-Power-/181106806132?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a2ace8d74&vxp=mtr
The CXRacing GT45 80mm turbo has a 80mm compressor and a 77mm turbine.
We have to be careful when talking about a GT45 Turbos because they are not all the same.
Hope this helps.

im doing a very similar build in a 68 camaro. I am new to turbos. but for your power goals I would skip the ls6 intake and use the money for a good set of springs. (only if this is a budget build like.mine and your using stock heads)

I'd say skip the 60lb injectors and go straight to 80's. Siemens Dekas.
You'll thank me later.

Don't forget a good fuel pump:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/WALBRO-F90000262-400LPH-UNIVERSAL-RACING-FUEL-PUMP-IN-TANK-W-INSTALLATION-KIT-/170920168201?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27cba2cb09&vxp=mtrThis will meet your fuel needs up to 600 easilly.
If you plan to ever go E85, go with this one instead:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/WALBRO-E85-RACING-FUEL-PUMP-F90000267-450LPH-IN-TANK-W-INSTALL-KIT-/170945680470?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27cd281456
Also, you will need to upgrade your fuel wiring harness, otherwise you will burn out your pump.
