Default Procharger Red race valve

Was wondering if it was worth having one over the black bypass valve that comes with the kit. Currently I'm running 8-9 lbs but going to switch pulleys and be around 12lbs+/- , any pros or cons to having it.

I'm still running the Pro-flo one myself and pushing north of 740rwhp. I do plan to upgrade and move mine this winter.

I want to move mine because right now it's in front of the driver's side wheel. With the windows up and ttops in, it sounds like I have a fan blowing behind my left ear, it's weird. So I plan to move it over towards the passenger side, pre-intercooler, and pointing down or back.

the race valve open is very loud, if you go with the closed one it has more of a whistle and gives you the option to attatch a tube and route the noise under the car or even into the exhaust. I am running the vortech mondo valve and love it.

So would it just be better to keep the black pro-flo I have now and just put a filter on the end instead of running it back into the piping. I plan to be around the 525 rwhp once the bugs are worked out.

I run the open big red bypass. It's loud but I like the noise. Folks have used the black unit (like The Alchemist) with good success. You aren't running a lot of boost so I think either way you will be fine. If you decide to get the big red unit in an open design, avoid pointing it towards the ground. Some folks using it in this orientation have a good time blowing dust/dirt from the ground into the engine bay.

I had a Mondo with my YSi, and I thought all was well. But over time, I could see that my impeller blades had been making contact with the volute. Bearings etc were always good.

This only stopped when I put a Big Red onto it. Although I wasnt getting any compressor surge noises when I shut the throttle, clearly the Mondo wasnt moving enough air.

IMO there are only positives for reliability by going Big.

As for the noise, the Big Red is quieter on my car than the Mondo was. I really dont get all the talk about them being loud. Mine really isnt.

thanks man. One of the best pics I could find of a car that looked similar to mine in stance with the front cutout. I always wondered whose car it was. I hope to snap some new shots of my own here soon and have them edited.

Getting back to the bypass valves and what not.......you guys should post videos of the different sounds they make while idling and revving and while shifting inside and outside of the car. It has not been done before.

Just run it open. You don't need a filter on it. The only time it is open, there is a ton of air coming out, it never should see vacuum.

525 rwhp should be fine with the black one. I'd say on a manual trans car with over 650 rwhp you could improve belt life with the red one.

I ran 614 RWHP for years just fine one the black standard ATI unit. If your power goal is under that, and you don't want it to be loud, I'd say you will be fine.

If you want it loud, the red race ATI unit is an option. When I put more power through mine, I went with the Tial BOV (I like it much better than ATI's race valve, and it cost a fraction of what the ATI unit goes for).

bigger is always better as far as a BOV goes...
they are only designed for one function.. to vent pressure when you close the throttle blades...
keeps the pressure from backfeeding thru the supercharger which puts a lot of stress on the blower and the bearings...

and the Big Red...is good at bleeding off pressure...but it is loud...LOL
