Well, the meth itself isn't going to make more power. It just will keep things safe to allow you to run more boost and timing safely. So I am assuming you kept low timing now and plan on advancing things when you spray the meth?

im going to go without meth most likely for the time that im getting used to the power levels since im going from 380rwhp to 550rwhp but i will probably get meth in the future so i can turn the boost up .... im at 145k and going to just do gaskets and possibly 317 heads depending on how much money i have left after all the have to have stuff but im going to keep it around 10psi and see if it blows up because im not very nice to my gas pedal lol but ill be running an intercooler and it will be tuned by steve williams

I don't like nitrous/meth because you have be bothered with filling bottles and worrying about something failing.

pretty much

I think you are a lot more likely to have things fail by boosting a non-forged internal, stock high CR, high mileage motor you just said you'll not being able to control keeping your foot out of, than worrying about taking the time to tip a jug once a month for a few seconds. But at least you've already come to terms about blowing up the motor.

Install a water/meth system correctly, and the chances of failure are around the same as having your fuel pump fail.

Also, by running water/meth, it's readily available as Boost Juice in gallon bottles for like $8 each. So buy a case of it, keep a bottle in your car, top off the tank when you're filling your gas tank.... seriously, if that's too hard, then I guess so is checking your oil level.

I understand the nitrous being a pain since it's 1, more expensive, 2, runs out fairly quickly, 3, it's not readily available. But saying keeping your meth/water tank topped off is a hassle doesn't make sense.

its not that its too hard its just whats in my budget and whether or not its a necessity ... i think the motor will be fine but some blow at 70k on boost and others 200k it just depends on conditions and if the motor was regularly taken care of which in my case it has except running it hard but i will have the motor out and apart before putting it all together to gap the rings , rod bearings and bolts and gaskets for insurance ... im not completely against meth i just agree with others on the board for my budget and power goals that if i dont have enough money left over after the important stuff than im not going to sweat it

I've spent a whopping $40 for meth in more than 3 years of heavy boost and abuse (and I still have about 12 gallons left). Meth injection is by far the cheapest route you could possibly take. I 100% garuntee it will be a small fraction of how much it will cost you to rebuild your stock boosted motor after it goes from running without it.

Good choice, don't let people scare you into thinking you have to have it. Remember you can always go buy a kit if your temps are out of control.

its not that the meth itself is expensive its initially buying the kit that is for me anyways lol i started the thread though because i wanted to know if the combo im putting together will make 550rwhp possibly i know lots of variables come in but im trying to decide how much boost i should initially run because i will be stuck with it for a while because i wont have the opportunity to spend this kind of money on it for a while to come

For the record... IAT's aren't what hurts motors... it's combustion temperatures. I popped my motor when my IAT's were 24 degrees on a cold January day.

oscs wont let that logic stand in his way. i dont think hes ever built a turbo LS car or any other turbo car
before (assumption) let alone used meth injection but he damn sure will have an opinion about it because he read something on the internet!

OP the vast majority of posters in here have told you to run meth. only a couple of jack offs telling you not to. quit looking for excuses not to run it and save your money for an extra month. http://www.turbomirage.com/water.html
now you have zero excuses.

OP just read this thread and you can see for your self how many guys are pulling off 550 on a stock bottom end. Meth or no meth it is possible, good luck! Be sure to make a build thread!

OSCS, remember, I can see your posts even if you delete them .

Everyone please back off on the throwing mud and try to focus on the intent of this thread and that's to help the guy putting together a build.

Is meth/water injection necessary at 550rwhp, maybe not, maybe you'll be fine for a long time.

Now do I feel as though it's a worth while investment to make and use, absolutely. I wish I had gotten my system installed sooner, but I had the mindset that it was the winter time, and my IAT's were low, so how bad could it be. I was pushing 15psi, very conservative AFR's, only 15 degrees of timing, I thought I'd have no issues till a cold January day and a Challenger SRT-8 revved at me and wanted to race. I dropped from 6th to 3rd, wound out 3rd gear, and when I shifted into 4th, a big puff of white smoke came out the tailpipes and that was the end of my motor. The only thing that survived was the cam and heads.

Would it have survived if I had been spraying meth/water, most likely because for me, it was a tight ring that butted together from too much heat and took out the ring lands.

Yeah some times I speak before I think. That's the beauty of the edit button (for most people anyways) lol

I agree with a lot of what you say but not all of it. But that's how it goes. My experience with these motors and many other turbo applications lean me towards my suggestions regardless what other loud mouth internet experts think.

Take it for what it's worth but I think enough people with real world experience have proven my point in this thread so I'll leave it at that.

not to butt in here, and I don't care what people run, but does anyone still run windshield washer fluid anymore, that used to be popular, or alc.
finding meth isn't always easy, unless like said you buy boost juice
its nice if you can find something local to use
