I meant it makes the exhaust much much louder at heavy throttle. Idle and cruising isn't going to have any effect on the exhaust. Anywhere above half throttle it is noticeably louder.

How did you come to this conclusion? Are you just saying it is a lot louder than a turbo car's exhaust above half throttle? Or louder than any car that doesn't have a super charger?

I am between these two for my Camaro as well. Im not sure I will be able to stand the constant LOUD whine of the F1A so was considering the D1, or just going turbo.

I've owned cars with every kind of aspiration out there. The supercharged car was by far the loudest. I took an already loud big block with open headers and only made it louder. A supercharged car is louder than an N/A or turbo car with a comparable exhaust. You're cramming tons of air into the engine and out of a fairly free flowing exhaust. At idle and cruise the only real difference will be the added whine of the supercharger itself and not the exhaust. At heavy throttle, the exhaust becomes earth moving.

Turbo is the opposite. The turbo itself creates enough turbulence and enough of a restriction that it alone will act like a large muffler. In most cases, a turbo car with an open downpipe will be quieter at idle and cruise than an N/A car with open headers.

If your car is primarily street, this should be a huge consideration. The car sounded better supercharged. But unfortunately, not everyone shared my affinity. Such as the neighbors, and the police.

I understand your reasoning behind what you are saying. Yes the turbos can make them quieter if it is small on the exhaust side. The big single turbos with large exhaust housing aren't any quieter. Now if we are talking about a BIG roots blower (6-71, 8-71, etc), than yes I will agree with you. They cram so much air so quickly, they do change the exhaust sound level. These centri blowers, not the case.

So with your theory, you are also saying that a Nitrous injected car will also be louder than a N/A car @ WOT. While technically this may be true. At WOT, the exhaust itself has more impact on the DB level then the blower will.

Normally when you're cruising the streets around the neighbor hoods, you're well under 50% throttle. So there for the car shouldn't be any louder than an N/A car with the same exhaust set up. According to the above theory...

With all that being said, I'm pretty sure BOZZ is really not to worried about the noise created by either setup.

Prochargers can do work and pretty damn reliable if you put a good belt/pulley system on it.... If my car was as light as a fox coupe, it would run 8.50s and I drive it every where, with AC, I've changed belts once in 4k miles with TONS of highway blasts. As for boost, that's all dependent on your pulley combo and your converter... With the right converter, you will NEVER be out of boost if youre wot.... From the time I nail it in any gear, I instantly see 15 psi, then it climbs from there. 3-2 down shift from 70 and its instant 20 psi....and I mean INSTANT..

Many ways to skin a cat. Pros and cons to both... Turbos do make more midrange power ONCE they spool up...most of the time, that just leads to tire spin... Then you need a boost controller to pull boost out...a lot of good that did. Turbos will be cheaper unless you hunt down some quality used Procharger parts which are every where.

If you're only wanting to go high 9s, throw a D1sc on it with a vette bracket setup and be done...

OH... and a procharger will be louder...LOL Just the way a hot rod is supposed to be...We're not driving miss daisy here....****...

Damn I killed this thread... Sorry OP...

Any talk on this forum other then junk yard turbo setups is taboo.... I obviously slaughtered your thread with a mention of anything non turbo/non junk yard. My bad...

Here is a bump for you.

Here's the thing.... Prochargers are basically a plug and play at this point. You want let's say less than 700hp, and it's just a fun street car, then D1SC, FMIC, Aster's bracket, supporting fuel mods and you're done. You want 700-1000rwhp, then it's either push a D1SC a little harder (they routinely can make 800hp) or step up to a F-1? series blower.

With a turbo setup, there's a lot more planning and customizing that needs to be done and thought out ahead of time. Do you care if you lose A/C, single or twin, manifolds or header style, which turbo, cam plays a huge role in how it performs, much more so than a supercharger. You also need to figure out oiling and sizing of the oiling, and how you're going to return the oil back to the motor, or if you may need a scavenge pump.

Sure, a turbo alone is less expensive than a procharger headunit, but that's only a fraction of what needs to be taken into consideration when doing a build.

Just look at the ratio of turbo "HELP" threads to Procharger ones. It's a 10:1 ratio.

So figure out exactly what your goals are, with a light fox body, you aren't going to need a lot of power to get it to et well. Try and get some rides in both style cars and see which you like better. Some hate the sound of a procharger, others love it.

What ive learned from reading around is prochargers are easier on parts and not to bad to tune. Turbos big power, tuning is harder and it puts more strain on parts. Ive had a twin turboed car it was fun and I wish I didn't sell it. I couldn't keep a trans in it lol. This time around I have a procharger coming for my current car. There all good in the end and are very enjoyable .

Well put "The Alchemist " I've started adding up what I will need for a turbo setup and procharger setup to see how its going to weight out as more time verse cost. One more thing is that using procharger will I need to keep compression low 9-10 or can I run it on a 11.1 engine to get to my goal ?

Well, 11:1 is a little high, but look at the mustangs and the c6 corvettes and 5th gen camaros. They are all north of 10.5:1 compression and safely run prochragers north of 600-800hp. Use good fuel, spray meth/water, and keep the timing and fueling conservative.

Thanks, I was just thinking of using the engine out of my Camaro instead of building one. I will just stick to the plan

I want to go with a d1sc with helical gears for my build. Its my DD so I want to keep it simple and reliable. I am not lookin to make a bunch of noise. I wanted the aps tt kit but I hear the turbos suck.

It's hard to beat the power and simplicity of a Procharger. Sure the turbo guys like to pound their chest and say they make more boost quicker, but just like AJORTHM stated above, once you get to a certain power level, the turbo guys put in boost controllers because they realize that too much boost, too quick, isn't the best way to control power, especially on the street.
