procharger or turbo
Turbo is the opposite. The turbo itself creates enough turbulence and enough of a restriction that it alone will act like a large muffler. In most cases, a turbo car with an open downpipe will be quieter at idle and cruise than an N/A car with open headers.
If your car is primarily street, this should be a huge consideration. The car sounded better supercharged. But unfortunately, not everyone shared my affinity. Such as the neighbors, and the police.
So with your theory, you are also saying that a Nitrous injected car will also be louder than a N/A car @ WOT. While technically this may be true. At WOT, the exhaust itself has more impact on the DB level then the blower will.
Normally when you're cruising the streets around the neighbor hoods, you're well under 50% throttle. So there for the car shouldn't be any louder than an N/A car with the same exhaust set up. According to the above theory...
With all that being said, I'm pretty sure BOZZ is really not to worried about the noise created by either setup.

Prochargers can do work and pretty damn reliable if you put a good belt/pulley system on it.... If my car was as light as a fox coupe, it would run 8.50s and I drive it every where, with AC, I've changed belts once in 4k miles with TONS of highway blasts. As for boost, that's all dependent on your pulley combo and your converter... With the right converter, you will NEVER be out of boost if youre wot.... From the time I nail it in any gear, I instantly see 15 psi, then it climbs from there. 3-2 down shift from 70 and its instant 20 psi....and I mean INSTANT..
Many ways to skin a cat. Pros and cons to both... Turbos do make more midrange power ONCE they spool up...most of the time, that just leads to tire spin... Then you need a boost controller to pull boost out...a lot of good that did. Turbos will be cheaper unless you hunt down some quality used Procharger parts which are every where.
If you're only wanting to go high 9s, throw a D1sc on it with a vette bracket setup and be done...
OH... and a procharger will be louder...LOL Just the way a hot rod is supposed to be...We're not driving miss daisy here....****...
Any talk on this forum other then junk yard turbo setups is taboo.... I obviously slaughtered your thread with a mention of anything non turbo/non junk yard. My bad...
Here is a bump for you.

With a turbo setup, there's a lot more planning and customizing that needs to be done and thought out ahead of time. Do you care if you lose A/C, single or twin, manifolds or header style, which turbo, cam plays a huge role in how it performs, much more so than a supercharger. You also need to figure out oiling and sizing of the oiling, and how you're going to return the oil back to the motor, or if you may need a scavenge pump.
Sure, a turbo alone is less expensive than a procharger headunit, but that's only a fraction of what needs to be taken into consideration when doing a build.
Just look at the ratio of turbo "HELP" threads to Procharger ones. It's a 10:1 ratio.
So figure out exactly what your goals are, with a light fox body, you aren't going to need a lot of power to get it to et well. Try and get some rides in both style cars and see which you like better. Some hate the sound of a procharger, others love it.
