turbo build.. 5.3l... head gaskets
I'm building a 5.3 with a turbo. And want to order all my gaskets now so once the motor is back from the machine shop I can re assemble.. I read somewhere on here that I should get copper head gaskets? So that they expand with the head with boost pressure ?? Others have said just spray the the copper sealer on the head gaskets? So just looking for opinions.. and links to where I can buy them

Stock MLS LS1 3 layer gaskets didnt hold on mine at 950whp and 28lbs, lifted the heads and coolant pushing at top and bottom of cylinders.
Switched to LS9's and had no trouble after that.
Now switching to TFS220 heads and I didnt like the larger 4.100 bore on the small bore of the 5.3 so now using Trick Flow 3.945 bore gaskets. Havent ran it yet but they look nice and are much closer to the correct bore size. Extra material cant hurt.

Running less compression isn't a bad thing IMO. Leaves you a wider area for errors in the tune and makes the motor less detonation happy. I went 8's on 25lbs of boost with my JY 5.3. Dished pistons, LS9 gasket, 317 heads. 8.6:1 compression. A full point of compression is only worth about a 5% hp gain NA.
