I cannot run the B8EF because I must run a resistor for Microsquirt. I have tried a non-resistor and I had issues. Does anyone make an 8 heat range plug that will work in 243 heads that is non-projected tip?

Nope... 7 is the coolest. How much boost are you running? What fuel? 7's are usually fine.

 

Depends. Anywhere from 10-15 psi in street trim with 93 and meth. 18-22 with some race gas mixed in (C-16 or FUSE 116).

Saw your thread. Usually have to limit the timing with hotter plugs and pump gas. No reason you should be torching plugs/heads with a 7 at those levels IMO.

 

I'm not. I am just looking for a colder plug so that in the event I want to push it, the plug is not a limitation.

well, it's readily available here in UK/Europe, maybe not so in the US ?

It's a gasketed, non projected cheap copper plug. I used them for a while before going to some more normal 7's

Didnt see any point in running as cold as 8's

 

LS uses a tapered head plug, not gasketed. (though I've heard some people run the gasket type plug on LS heads anyway)

 

I know. Ive tried various plugs in various heads. They all end up the same way, so really doesnt matter.

Besides, tapered seat plugs are very uncommon here. Almost every car here uses gasketed type plugs.

So just use what is readily available.

 

if my memory serves me right ngk makes a 8 heat range plug but it is 13/16 hex. I couldn't use it on my mast heads. the hex was to big. I don't remember the part number off of the top of my head. I will have to go look for it again.

I believe you are right. Anything colder than a 7 uses a 13/16 socket, which won't fit in the head.

I wonder if one could bore the plug hole out a little and also trim a socket in the lathe enough to make it work.

According to one site it cross references to Champion QC61YCST, not sure if that might be more available over there. Not that I particularly like Champion plugs.

 

I ran the NGK 8 heat range non-resistor plugs. They were gasketed and still 5/8. They fit fine, they just did not get along with Microsquirt.

 

The plug I am referring to is a resistor plug number 8 heat range but is 13/16 hex. I'm not sure if it will fit your heads.
