I'm considering the LQ4/S480 combo myself. I like the bigger bore of it vs. the 5.3. It leaves room to turn it in to a badass 370 or 408 in the future.

True I would like room to grow. 370 would be my choice over a 408

keep an eye out on craigslist. i bought an lq4 for $400 in minneapolis. if you can score on for a good deal buy it otherwise just find a 5.3 or 4.8. im in northern wi and the junkyards want like $700-800 for 5.3's which is just ridiculous

I'd do bad things for a $400 LQ4 lol. It's about $1000 for a long block down here x_x

Lol I hear ya. I seen one lq4 for $500 but it had 188k. I'd like to find a motor with around 100 or less if at all possible. Things just gotta Last a year.

I'm going lq4. When I have the funds to do a forged setup might do a ls2 for the fact of aluminum.

If it were me I'd stay with the iron blocks in a FI setup. You'll get less cylinder distortion, and more structural integrity...the aluminum ls2 block only weighs about 60 less that the iron blocks iirc. Unless your sleeveing aluminum iron ftw

My s480 spools plenty fast for me with the 92mm turbine on my 5.3 l33. It has plenty of low end to break the tires loose at 2800 rpm with drag radials from a stop.

^What are you putting down? I'd like to save the weigh, tho its not a whole lot. Plus heard some people saying it's not as hard to keep the car cool with an aluminum block..?

2 tire marks at half throttle at 65 mph, lol. I honestly do not know as I have yet to get it to a dyno. Hoping to get a helmet and finish it up soon so I can get it to the track and get some numbers.

The nice part is the .240 thick sleeves in the l33 block and the good heads. Mine has 317 heads, but the sleeves and short block are all still stock. I would forge one....also thought about destroking a forged one and boosting the hell out of it. I donno, hopefully I have time as I am hoping to make the stock block last a little while.

Toytech93-I do like the sound of a lq4 tu2.. It's best of both worlds.
Sarg- Yea the thickness of the 5.3 is nice. If you were to destroke it why not run 4.8? Am I missing something?

Pick up a 5.3 with s475 or 480. Lq4s are spendy. Throw a cam and springs in it and let it rip. But keep the boost and timing very conservative on pump gas. They seem to pick up knock at 10lbs and anything over 13*. My stock 5.3 s475 cam and psi springs with a intake ran a 9.98 @137 at 15lbs making about 720whp. Car is 3600 th400 foot braked a 1.48 60ft on 275 drag radials its a streetcar I drove it to track and got kicked out first pass haha. If your gonna turn in up put some race gas it tho. Stock pistons wont live long.

I will be running e85. From 5.3 to 6.0 some ppl say they can tell a noticeable difference out of boost. Do you guys with 5.3 say it's still good on the street or are they laggy?

I think it is fine honestly. I have a bit of a converter and low gears so it is not crazy out of boost, but it is just a slight movement of the foot away from boost.
