95 Formula 5.3 / 4l80 / Huron Speed Twin 6665 / Megasquirt 3 build thread
Switching from a 355 LT1 / P600B / M6 to a 5.3 / 4L80E / Twin 6665's. Starting this thread to document it.
Been in process since last year, but should be driving within the next 2 months.
For now, the motor is a stock rebuild 5.3, loosened up with a bunch of ARP hardware. It will be swapped out with a real motor sometime down the road, once all of the bugs from the swap are worked out.
Engine management will be handled thru a Megasquirt 3 with MS3X and Microsquirt transmission controller inside the stock LT1 ECU housing.
Not quite sure where to start, but here's a random list of parts going into it.
rebuilt lm7 engine w/ clevite h bearings, arp head / main studs, rod bolts. .028 and .032 ring gap. btr 660 springs w/ steel retainers. ls7 lifters. melling 10296 oil pump. speed inc tu1 cam. ls2 timing set. ls6 timing damper. ls9 head gaskets (had to get the notches on the heads welded up for this..)
moroso 710-21150 oil pan with external filter mount (this thing needed a TON of work to fit, I can't say I'd recommend it. sure does look good though)
huron speed twin turbo hot side kit w/ tc 6665 turbos.
dirty dingo alternator mount w/ tensioner
custom stand up radiator using griffin 55241-xs
custom steam port setup using all swagelok stainless fittings
BMR Turbo K Member w/ umi soild mounts, BMR 4L80E transmission crossmember for 93-97 cars
UMI tunnel mount torque arm
stock 4l80e with transgo hd2 kit for now. planning to swap it out with a jake's eventually.
yank py3600 converter, ati 915733 flexplate
arp head studs, main studs, rod bolts
Anyways, I'll be sure to post progress updates and pics soon. I will have a lot of questions. Hopefully this thread will help people out too. Surprisingly, I had a very hard time finding details of swapping a 4l80e AND an LS into a Lt1 car. Was only finding info on one or the other. Keeping my fingers crossed that the trans (using Lt1 style mount, due to different floor pan) will meet up to the LS engine in the 98-02 k-member.

Got it started today. Still a ton of work left, but the Megasquirt 3 is working great.
I need to figure out a solution to the radiator hoses. The upper driver side port hits the turbo compressor housing even with the tightest 90 degree silicone coupler. Any suggestions? I'm thinking im going to have to weld something up...
