5.3L LM4 Single Turbo Cam Suggestions - Daily Driver
Hello all, we recently finished a build on a 5.3L Single Turbo setup. Some specs on the car...
2004 LM4 (AL Block 5.3)
Completely stock internals, heads have never been off, stock cam, springs, etc. 75k miles
Custom turbo manifold setup, was driven by space restrictions. Passenger side feeds across the back of the block into the back of the drivers side manifold, then to the front to the single scroll turbo.
BorgWarner S366/.88 Single Scroll T4 Turbo
Tial MVR Wastegate
Tial BOV
3" IC Piping, and stock R33 Nissan Skyline GTR Intercooler
LS1 Intake/Throttle/Rails
72lb Siemens injectors
EDIT Car is 3500lbs with a manual transmission, 26" tires, 3.54 gears /EDIT
Car made 381WHP/449wtq at 7lbs on a dynojet... graph attached. Raising boost to 12lbs resulted in valve float, but torque did jump to 530lbs before the valves started floating.
This car is built to be a daily driver, so the owner does not want an aggressive idle, etc. I'm honestly thinking stock LS6 cam and springs, or LS6 cam with some aftermarket springs. I'm thinking 500WHP should be pretty easy to achieve.
Appreciate any feedback.

The LS6 cam is great for the price. If you want aftermarket I would contact stock48 on here and get the triple 12 cam. Its a small 212/212 on a 112 LSA that idles and drives great and makes excellent power. It should make a fair bit more than the LS6 cam. A set of $125 PAC 1218 spring compliment it perfectly.
One guy on here picked up 9 MPH with it in the quarter mile on a stock motor and small Chinese turbo. Its a very popular cam and Jarrett is very knowledgeable if you need any help with it.

Even with something Like Jarrett's Triple 12.... i would have more spring on the motor than a 1218.... Go with a BTR Platinum spring and be done with it... and odds are Jarrett will reccomend the same thing.

When I bought his larger 218/218 cam he said they would be fine. The lift on the triple 12 is well below limits of the PAC springs. Would it hurt going with a bigger spring? Probably not.
