Default New to FI, need suggestions.

A customer of mine purchased a 2000 C5 corvette that has a rear mount 80mm turbo. It was running 11.5lbs of boost on a forged 355CI LS1 and a ring land went. Now I sold him an L99 I had laying around and he wants a 416 stroker motor to run on 91 octane pump fuel that can make good power and be daily driven with no worries. Does not mind the expenses, just wants a fun fast toy that he doesn't have to worry about so much. I believe the LS1 had 230CC AFR heads, with .600 lift springs. He plans to reuse those on the new motor. So what CR should we shoot for and cam spec would work good for this setup? Also what boost level would be good for 800-900rwhp, IF that can be achieved safely with this setup, that is what he wants. It has 80lb injectors with stock pump with Kenne Belle boost-a-pump. I am getting him to change the fuel setup to a better fuel pump, will the injectors be big enough? Also what aftermarket intake would fit under the cowl and be an improvement worth the money over stock? If any other info is needed please ask, I am a bit hair brained at the moment, so I'm sure I've missed important details.

9:5 is pretty common for compression.

methanol kit.

Timing conservative----AFR a little fat. not really psi that will matter vs cfm is what im told. that 80 should make tons of power when he wants to run the 418. for now throw 650-700 at that 5.3 with stock internals and call it a day. if he blows it up, buy another one for 350 bucks and do it again. probably best for you guys to start tinkering on that 5.3 vs a new 418. if hes using a stock block for the 418 though, he may wanna consider going smaller cubes for additional strength on the bottom end. a 370 would be perfect. My $0.02

Get the customer what he wants. If he wants the 416 then get it for him. TSP has good prices on shortblocks.

It takes time to swap out a engine if you are a shop doing it. Customer wouldn't be happy having to drop it back off a few months later to put another engine in it again.

Let me make this clear. The car had an LS1 that had been bored and forged to a 355 cubic inch. It went and now I am building a 416 stroker out of an LS3. I know the aluminum block isn't the strongest, but we're not looking to make insane power. Just a fun daily that can be drove with no worries. I am not asking which route will be the cheapest, the man has the money and want's it done right. So I am asking for some advice on the setup since I am not all too familiar with forced induction. I already ordered the callies rotating assembly. Wiseco -25cc pistons with steel nitrided top ring, compstar rods with arp 2000 bolts, Callies dragonslayer 4" crank. All ARP 2000 bolts and studs throughout. We will be reusing his AFR 230 heads with PRC .600 lift springs, TSP 7.4 hardened PRs, and around a 64cc chamber and LS9 headgaskets. Still trying to decide which intake and throttle body, fuel pump and regulator, and which methanol kit. Goin to have comp spec out a cam for the setup.

There is no 5.3 and a 370 would be impossible since the stock bore is 4.060 which makes it a 376. We are using an LS3/L99 block. The compression should be around 9.2-9.3 so we should be good on that.

I would reuse the stock intake and throttlebody. Look into Fuelinjectorconnection.com I think is their site for all fuel related parts or Nasty performance I know deals alot with fuel systems. Get with Martin@Tick, Liljohn motorsports, Brian Tooley, Bryan Neelan@LME or a few others for a custom cam.

Boost level is a number and that is it. 8lbs could give you 500-700+ depending on how well the rest of the engine was built.

80lb injectors will get you there if you are running pump and meth. If it is E85 you may need a bigger injector.

What 80mm turbo? If its a T4 PT80 your going to have some back pressure issues with that many cubes. Your going to need a larger turbine to make power up top. Also might want to change out the valve springs depending on age, but most cam places LJMS, BTR, Tick, or others will probably spec a cam larger then those can handle anyways.

I am not sure what turbo it is. THe specs we received with the car did not list it. The valve springs are still new with only 1500 miles on them. I have some PRC .650's but we are having the cam spec'd around the current setup.

Those valve springs you'll probably want to upgrade anyways, might as well just call Brian Tooley and order his valve springs and have him spec you a cam, he is absolutely great to deal with and knows his stuff!

The 5.3 and 6.0 (and even 4.8) truck engines are all built on the same LS architecture as the LS car engines. They perform just as well, and 95+% of the parts are interchangeable. The only things that aren't usually come down to what bore and stroke the engine has.

The 5.3s are extremely cheap and handle boost like a champ. Almost everything from an LS1 is a direct swap minus the pistons and some of the year-specific stuff.

Too many people think if its not an 'LS' from a car that its not an LS and pay no attention to the truck engines. The truck engines hold the records for stock bottom end LS 1/8 and 1/4 trap speed and ET.

Majority of people here just like to keep saying buy a junk yard 4.8, 5.3 or 6.0 etc. even though you have stated that you are not looking for that.

After seeing the sheer number of people that have cracked 700whp on one of these engines they paid $500 for, its kind of hard not to. I would never put a junkyard engine in a customers car when he is looking for 850whp, but my own car? Absolutely.

So you are going to put the AFR LS1 Cathedral Port Heads with the LS3? Like they said, that turbo may become small for those cubes. Also what is your CR after the -25cc dish?
Also you should check the pushrod length after you get your new cam. Some cams are cut from different sized cores.
I would have kept the factory stroke, but that's because I'm not a fan of strokers. lol I do like the Idea of using a 4.8 crank on the LS3 though.. DesTroker lol..
