Default Prepping a 5.3 for boost, looking for suggestions...

Pulled the 5.3 out of my 88 Mustang to prep it for more boost, going to do a 03 LS6 cam, head studs and new rod bolts. I am pulling the pistons to regap the rings, and I have a few questions.

I'm using ARP rod bolts, and I'm guessing they will come with a spec as to what they need to be torqued to, the Procomp head studs did not....Suggestions?

Also, what do gap the rings at? .024" top and .026" second?

So far the car has made 568 RWHP on 14 lbs and 12 deg of timing with a dead stock motor, I didn't want to turn it up so I am doing this work before I do.

Thanks guys.

Have you considered valve springs and pushrods? if procomp is the same kind on fleabay then I did mine at 64 ft lbs.

I gapped my rings at .028" and second at .030" using mahle rings.

Why the rod bolts? Never heard of them being a weak link. You should resize them if your going with ARP. What year is it?

The procomp and whatever the other ebay brand tq specs have a thread on here. Most are saying to go 25, 50, 70 lbs or about that torque on them. Almost everyone agreed that going up to the 80 lbs range has caused issues with snapping and such.

What he said. I did mine at 64 ft. lbs because when I got them there was paper saying tq them between 60-65.

This is the plan so far:
Procomp head studs torqued to 64 ft lbs.
Rings gapped to .026/.028 ARP rod bolts ( I bought them because I thought the stockers were TTY)
03 Z06 cam with LS7 Lifters, LS2 lifter trays, Comp pushrods, TFS 16916-16 valve springs.

Am I missing anything?

you might want to torque those head studs to 64.36 ft lbs for best results.

I would take the rods to a machine shop and have them resized with the ARP hardware, since your pulling pistons to gap the rings.
