Default Aluminized hot side painting/ wrapping

I decided I'm going to wrap my hot side now that its done, I was just going to leave it bare aluminized steel but after the welding/grinding has been done, its now aluminized steel with several sections of bare mild steel around the weld areas (where the grinder was used to prep the joints)....so it looks pretty hideous to say the least.

Should I spray bomb it first with VHT prior to titanium wrap, or just wrap it?

Also, does all the zinc coating need to be grinded off before paint if I go that route?

I'm spray bombing my hot side, manifolds and all, with VHT before the titanium wrap. Mine's all mild & cast iron though. I have painted aluminized tubing with VHT in the past and it held up fine. I'd just scotchbrite it, clean real good and spray.

I used Rustoleum BBQ paint. It's cheaper, goes on nicer, and you aren't going to see it anyway.

I did the manifolds with Sperex VHT and it's holding up quite well.

I would just use the lava wrap. The paint won't do anything compared to the heat wrap. Kinda just wasted money

Painted mine with vht then wrapped them with dei titanium.
The paint might not help with keeping the heat in but will protect it from rusting.

Looks nice ^

Im going to go with the RacePartsSolutions Lava wrap. Way cheaper than EI Titanium and it has good reviews on YB. I just cant find a solid answer anywhere online that says aluminized coating is ok to paint, or if it needs to come off.

I cleaned mine with laquer and scuffed with a scotchbrite. Seemed like it was adhering just fine.

OK cool.

I do ha e access to a big blast cabinet and bad *** parts washer. I might do that, which would get rid of all the aluminized coating on the outside, but if it's painted that's ok right? or should I skip the sand blaster?

Are the factory manifolds better to wrap with 1" or 2" wrap?

Same question for the downpipes and hot side

I used 2" was fine.
It took 150' to do manifolds, hot pipes, down pipe and wastegate dump.

manifolds are easier with 1"

vht over your aluminized b4 you wrap it, it will hold up alot better.

I used 1" on the manifolds. Used about 40ft for each side.

That paint, under the wrap will last a short time.
Most of it is 1200*.

God point, so is it even worth it to paint mild steel before wrapping? I feel like it will just disbond from the tubing under the wrap and not really provide any corrosion resistance.
