Default on3 76mm on a 5.3, good idea?

I have been planning on using an on3 76mm single turbo on my build, but before I order one I want to hear some opinions on the setup.

This car will be about 98% Street driven, and I'll be running a 4l80e (undecided TC). Basically I want a fun Street car, but if the turbo comes on a little later that's OK since the widest tire I can fit is a 245.

Watch those videos. Builds a cheap Ford Fairmont with a mostly stock 4.8 (eventually gets a small cam) and On3 76mm. Turns into a tire frying beast that lights the tires off from idle at a stop light. Very very little turbo lag. Car eventually runs low 10s without pushing the turbo too hard.

The 65mm turbine should work well with a 5.3L, just pick a large A/R if you plan on spinning over 6k

The results speak for themselves. However the 65mm turbine is a bit small for a 5.3, quick to spool, but also to choke. I just got the On3 78/75, at $390 it's a great deal. That would surely do better than the 76/65.

Here's what mine did on an LQ4 with 14 lbs.

Pull on the street.

Eventually went with a Turbonetics 7875 and got it in the 9's on 14 lbs.

The s10 Blazer I bought has the on3 turbo on the 5.3. Turbo spools late but I think that is because of the large piping keeping the exhaust velocity down. It is fun to drive need to get front end work done and will get it tuned better to see what it does. Redoing hotside pipes this winter or sooner depending on how bored I get it.

There have been a few people here make 650-750whp on the 76mm. I think ~750 or so at the wheels is the most made on one so far.

I wouldn't listen to that power number. He later put a billet S476/92 on the same truck and it made the same power (515hp). That truck has something wrong with it lol - nothing to do with the turbo.

Yeah, he said something about that, maybe the converter.

So Maybe just rock the 76mm w/. 96 AR? 650+ sounds like plenty

I'm Either running the stock 5.3 cam, or I Have a 6.0 cam I could use too. I don't want it to be too laggy so is. 96 the way to go or smaller?

the 76/65 is a beast i went 136 easily with that turbo on a 4.8 and it lit qiuck with the triple 12 cam, on a 5.3 it should easily make 600 tire and light even faster, for a street car it would make it alot of fun.

I too have a 5.3 with an On3 7876 but the turbo setup will not be running till next year. Should be more than enough to take me into the low 10's on a 6-speed and a better time with an AT. Plus listen to Denmah.....his name says enough lol.
