Default Stock head gasket and TTY bolt limit

At what point do you throw gaskets and studs/bolts on these engines? How long did your stock head gaskets last and at what hp and/or boost?

But why? For something so cheap - Its just a matter of time. Can it be done? Sure - but again, why?

If for any reason ur pulling the heads then go ahead and swap to head studs but if not I would just leave the motor alone and boost it denmah has pushed plenty of motors for us on stock stuff and has lifted a head that I'm aware of

Interesting results...

Only reason I ask is that you have to wonder if taking the heads off causing more problems than just leaving them on and keeping boost low and the tune-up where it needs to be. This LQ9 I'm starring at has the layered gaskets on it already from the factory.

im a firm believer in if it aint broke dont fix it.

a few years ago people said you HAVE to run rod bolts and you could never run more than 9psi, cerainly never go 8s on stock motors etc etc

You'll be pushing the limits of the gen1 rods long before stock bolts and gaskets become a factor!

Mine lifted at 630hp. Had 19* in it on E85 which isnt much for that fuel but they lifted. Its setup/tune dependent. I question whether or not the guy before had the heads off and reused the bolts though.

If you looked at the timing tables of all the people who say stock gaskets and bolts won't work, you'd surely see a pattern above 100kpa

Edit* just read the post above mine. Lol.

This lq9 is an '06, appears to have the h-beams (factory ones).

I figure all that crud (scale, coolant etc) is like gasket sealer lol!!!

I agree, I do not see the point in pulling heads on a JY engine. Just slap a cam/springs/pushrods in that thing and rock and roll.
