Default help me spec out a new ls build

I think my old faithful lt1 is down for the count due to a failed fuel pump at about the 1000ft mark.

I will be starting basically from scratch with a ls motor but I want to start collecting parts to build a motor over the next year. This will still be ran on e85. This is mainly raced with very little street use. I want to start off with an aftermarket block so I am not constantly worried about splitting the block in half or pushing coolant all over the place. I mainly want opinions on size and not so much on actual part selection. truck currently has a 98mm f trim 1.0 precision turbo. I know if i go any bigger i will need to change the wheel and exhaust cover or just sell this one and find one that fits the build a little better. Has a hughes performance glide in it with dedenbear case and all the goodies. currently has fast xfi. I will most likely stay with the fast and add an xfi box. plan on going with some type of mechanical fuel pump, either belt drive or cable drive.

Im looking to use a iron dart ls next block
do I go big cubes or keep the motor smaller and spin it?
big bore short stroke, big bore big stroke?
what static compression ratio with non intercooled , meth injection and e85

this is going to be a budget build, this will not have an crazy exotic parts in it, but it will be better parts then im currently running which is just a basic forged scat rotating assembly.

You said lx next block and budget build in the same post. Do some research.

The iron LS next block would be a good starting point, and hard to beat for the price.

With the single I would not go big on cubes, stock stroke and a 4.125 bore would be the ticket. As far as heads and valve train go that is very dependent on budget and power goals in the future.

Why would you not big cubes on a single? I figure a g trim 1.50 ar housing would keep the bp in check even with something 427+ ci.

Because big cubes aren't needed for big power.

Most people spend 10 grand on a longblock 427 and a billet 94mm only to make 900 whp. Then guys make that with a stock junkyard 4.8.

I would go with the dart block, big bore and short stroke (4.8) crank. Rectangle heads. You'll be able to make huge power and spin it to the moon if you wanted.

I've been thinking about building another car for NASA and it'll use the same concept. N/A though.

Yes the G trim will support up to 450ci with no trouble, I just seen you had a 1.0 F-trim in the original post.

I don't mind going up on the backside. I already have a g trim 1.5 housing from another project. I would just need the wheel.

There's really no way to budget build a dart block as I am putting on together right now. While the cost of the block is very reasonable you have to buy a custom oil pan $800+, proprietary head studs and main studs ($750), main bearings specific to the block ($170). And I'm likely forgetting some stuff at this point. I could have bought an erl aluminum 6 bolt bare block for less but I wanted the dart for the strength and oiling advantages.

I guess i worded my budget build wrong. I am going to do a nice build here with money in mind. I am not going to go out and just spend careless money on exotic parts and end up with some that runs just as well as someone that spent have the money. I am fully aware of all the cost of the parts that go along with it. I really was just looking for what works better with these motors as far as size and stroke. Power goals are going to be to put this Sonoma well into the 7's and be reliable. I mean i almost got there with the lt1 which was a real Budget build 5 years ago.

Yea it will not take anything fancy to run the number you want. The GM LSX block is another good option too.

My choice would be the LSX block for your goals also. If you are dead set on the Dart block then go for it but the LSX would be just as reliable for what you are doing and quite a bit cheaper.

It is awesome to see you still have and race this truck. I used to drool over the videos back when you had the 4.3 and T56!
