Default Filling Engine Blocks

Wanted to get some information on filling a LS motor. I did a search but did not come up with any thing. Has any one done this? What did you use pros and cons?

We used to fill Big Mopars and Small and Big Chevys to the bottom of the freeze plugs. I have never thought about it for the LS. My car has an iron block and that seems to be the most common path here up to 1000 HP. I don't think it would be necessary unless you were wanting stupid RPM combinations.

Sorry I wasn't more help.

Cons are silica in the coolant until it settles out. Pros I assume you know would be more rigid bore and main web stability.

I wish i would've done it on my block when it was being built. I was talked out of it though.

Run an oil cooler if you this.

We fill iron blocks all the time here.
Nothing really out of the ordinary, big power street cars get a half fill to the bottom of the lower water pump holes. Some of them get full fills and 1/2" head studs.

Filling the block isn't going to help a tremendous amount with cracking the upper cylinder liners.

Will a half fill really give you the strength your looking for and allow you to run the car on the street with no cooling issues?

not as rigid as a full fill but enough to help while still being able to maintain good operating temps, street or track.

Half fill helps especially on stroker LS engines, where the piston is trying to push it's way out of the bottom of the cylinder when it's rotating around to go to back up the hole.

I run a 3/4 fill on the street and no issues. There is about 1 to 1-1/4" from the deck to the fill.

The iron lq blocks are all really thin there. I have 8 in my shop and none are over .120" thick between the cyls. One is .050".

At what point do you need to fill a block and does this help with aluminum blocks? I hear they are weaker than the iron ones.

I filled my iron block about 2/3 of the way up the water pump holes.

I would recommend a well thought out cooling system if you plan on driving during the warmer months.

I know if my car were a street car it would need dual fans and most likely a larger radiator with the block filled like it is.
