Default Thinking about a cam swap...opinions

So my current set up is
73 nova
3620# race weight
Th400 rmvb
3000 converter
9" 3:25 gears
275/60/15 mt's

02 4.8 with gaskets and studs
Current cam is 228/230 112
Gt45 turbo

So my problem is the car has no a**. It's so lazy outa boost and just has no tourqe at all. I know it's a small motor, but I'm thinking there's probably a better cam for my combination. seeing as how I had the current cam left over from my old lq4 build. It pulls hard up top and has trapped 130mph on 14lbs with a 2.0 60ft. I feel like there may be more in it with a better cam choice. I've tried everything to break boost this thing and I can't get more than 1psi on the foot brake and 2 step. So it leaves like a dog. What are some of you guys opinions. Is it worth it to change it to something else or just hit it with a 250 shot out the hole haha

You probably could use more gear and/or converter.

I think you whould benefit from a smaller cam all the way around. im not a cam guy but id bet a triple 12 whould bring it alive.

I was thinking about a converter but this one is so nice on the street it would be hard to let it go

I'd recommend our 4.8/5.3 Stage 1 Turbo camshaft. It would really wake the car up without having to mess with the gearing or stall speed.

Specs are 215/219 .612/.585 114+3. What valve springs are you currently running? If it has a good dual spring, or even a stout beehive this cam would drop right in and be a large improvement in performance, especially E.T. at the track.

I have a set of pac beehives in the car now, but I acually have a brand new set of Bryan tooley dual valve springs I bought from you a couple years ago when you spec'd the cam for my 370. Do you think I would pick up a good amount of bottom to mid range with your stage 1 cam Martin? To give you a better idea my current cam is a xr281hr from comp.

IMO the bottom end and mid-range would wake up exponentially with the smaller cam.

If you'd like, we can cut the duration down even more on the exhaust side which will boost bottom end and mid-range even more. I don't think it's necessary though as the gain going from what you have to the Stage 1 would be a large one IMO.

Decreasing the intake duration 13 degrees along with 11 degrees off the exhaust lobe will help big time.

Good deal. I'll give you a call in the next few weeks and get one ordered.

martin how do these cams seem to be for lifter noise? I ask because with 615 lift and that short duration that must be a fairly aggressive lobe. seems to me these cams need a pretty stout spring to hold them stable at 6000+rpm.

that cam sounds like a good cam for a 6.0 street sbe engine to me.
