Turbo for a stock 5.3
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
On a street driven car or truck I prefer smaller faster spooling turbo's over the big slugs. Oh, they make tons of power, but on a stock cam you would have very little usable RPM's while in boost. I used an On3 76 on a 5.3 in a 99 4x4 z71 and it doesn't start boosting until around 31 to 33 hundred rmps. The owner and I both wish we would have used a smaller turbo or A/R to bring the boost online in the mid 2k rpm range. It's not a track truck so it doesn't need the high rpm boost. We are considering swapping the A/R to a smaller A/R or swapping to a smaller turbo.
Something to think about.
