Default Turbo for a stock 5.3

I'm planning a turbo build for my c10. I'm trying to decide what turbo to go with. I want to get a Borg Warner but I don't know if to get a s366, s400 or s475. The truck has a 5.3/4l60e and 3.08 gears. Its a daily driver and the motor will be stock with upgraded valve springs, headgaskets and studs. I was wanting to make about 450 to 500 whp but wouldn't mind getting closer to 600. Let me know what u guys think...I need to know a/r and trim size

A s475 is a s400 frame,as is a s476 or s480. ..I believe all s400 turbos are same frame. . . Somebody correct me if I'm wrong please

And I would say a s366 is a little on the small side. You could easily reach your goals on the s475 t4 and still keep the boost down. If it were me I'd throw a cam in too while the heads are off

What size turbine wheels for the s475? I see some guys using the LS6 cam so I was kinda thinking about getting one of those.

Again I believe all s400 frames are the same... 75 is referring to the compressor wheel size in MM ...so a s475 is a s400 frame with a 75mm wheel, and I believe the t4 1.10 is 83 mm exhaust wheel, .I'm no turbo expert maybe somebody will chime in that knows more about them.I got mine from bullseye power It's a t4, great for my 6 speed, maybe you can go with a box unit t6 s475 and still meet ur goals. ..since u have a auto and the t6 is cheaper anyway

This explains it well... it even gives you the real name since s475 is made up...again it's Realy a s400 sx 75 .... and along the way was called a s475. ...like a s480 is Realy called a s400 80. ..

Anyway this should clear it up for u

If you really only wanted 500-something hp and promised to not want to turn it way up in the future, then the box-stock s366 you mentioned would work. It comes with the .91 A/R t4 housing.

Ebay GT45 will get you your goal.

If you go with a Borg Warner, get the $650 S475 with 83mm turbine. You might have to toss in an extra $150 or so if you want the T4 turbine housing. It'll run great on a 5.3 with plenty of head room.

^^Beat me to the punch. The smaller GT45 will get you to your goal at under $350 for the turbo. The S475 is a great option but it seems a bit more than what you want....thats if you are really trying to stay under 600hp. If you want to turn her up at some point in the future then the S475 will give you plenty of room to grow for a great price.

If you want to keep it at or under 600, I would second the s366. Cheap and would definetely get the job done, and the powerband would be great

basically you tell us what your hp goal is or the goal for the car.

and then you insert a turbo to fulfill those needs

its like asking what kind of air conditioner do you need for your house
what size house? how cold or hot? how many rooms, etc

Exactly.

Displacement
RPM
Fuel Type
Horsepower Goal

That's all you need to size a turbo.

Vsracing or cxracing are a few of the better EBay Vendors, running a 3600 stall here. As for Bov and a WG you'll probably get a lot of opinions. Running a 60mm for each here.

Talk to Huron Speed about the turbo. Jon will help you out.

Ok good I'll check all those guys out. I talked to my buddy at the shop today and he said he can fab up a kit. Only thing is he said he doesn't really know how to weld stainless steel so I'll probably have to get mild steel pipes or something. He has some truck manifolds laying around so that's the manifolds taken care of.
What size intercooler do u guys think would fit behind my grille? Are those ebay intercoolers any good too? Here's my truck btw...Me and my buddy finished the swap at his shop back in July. Tons of room for a turbo under there!
