Default How do you feel about treadstone?

I've done some searching for a decent intercooler without breaking the bank and I came across treadstone intercoolers. I really like the reviews that I'm finding so far. I'm really liking the TR1235, it is more than adequate for my flow and HP levels (8-10# 500 hp). So, what do you think?

Practically the same size as the ebay 31x12x4 (22x12x3.5 core for most) which lots of people love. They have better cores but don't compare to say a bell or garret core. Seems like there are a lot of good reviews on the treadstone stuff when comparing to ebay. I have personally only used ebay ones since most seem to like them for an everyday budget street car and they are like $130.

As stated above. Treadstone cannot be compared to CX racing or other ebay coolers. It also cannot be compared to a garret or Bell. It is a great middle ground intercooler in price and efficency. I like mine a lot.

I think there is room to compare upper end intercoolers vs eBay intercoolers because depending on what the person is doing for fueling it could sway the decision completely. How much power is the op looking to make? Are you running e85 or methanol? If so then the ic's overall value is minimal compared to running on 93pump gas where iat's become more critical. I'm not opposed to a better quality IC, but it all depends on the individuals goals and for that they are worth comparing.

With that said if the op is only shooting for 10psi then that would suggest he is probably doing that on pump gas. An eBay intercooler would be fine for those boost/hp goals, but it could net cooler iat's going with a better unit which is important for pump gas cars

True. I made my comment based on the assumption of a max effort pump gas build.

Compared how? Air flow? Heat transfer? Or just cost. You'd have to compare two the exact same size in every dimension in order to come to a conclusion. Anyone ever gather this data based on 2 coolers the exact same dimensions? Air flow and heat transfer rate between the 2?

I've had a Garret core and made my own cooler, also cut apart a few cheap ones and also run an ebay one. They are all made of the same aluminum, sized correctly they will all flow what you want, and im sure all of them are made in some sweat shop in China and cost .10 cents to make.
The guy with the bigger name just makes the most money. Welcome to America.

Have i done a side by side? No. I read and watched the gains made in person (friends cars, asking around at the local track etc.) and i purchased the treadstone according to better heat tranfer and lower psi drops. Also there are plenty of people in this section alone that have done side by side comparisons. Do your research. A lot of mustang guys have posted direct comparison results as well. Just becuase they are made in the same country with the same aluminum doesnt mean much. Im not saying a CX is a "bad" intercooler im simply saying a treadstone unit is better. To what degree is up for debate i suppose.

On the reviews that I found online I really liked the core density of the treadstone vs the eBay intercoolers. I also liked the diverter that treadstone uses on their end tanks to try to force more air across the entire core.

I'm far from an expert. I've never cut open intercoolers or made my own. I also can't tell you what makes a bell better than a garret. I can however say that I have seen drastic increases when switching from same sized ebay coolers to treadstone units. Good luck OP!

I had the ebay one for my single 70mm setup and I'd get 170-80* temps at the end of a summer 1/4 pull. The treadstone that I had/have for my twin setup would only see 150-60* on a summer 1/4 pull. Not apples to apples exactly, but a comparison none the less.

I run a treadstone on my nova due to demensions and cost. I know Im giving up some performance vs a high end I/c but it seems to do the job. On a 90 deg day I see about 180 deg iat's at 20psi by 1/8 mile. Sounds hot but without it they would be 300+. Car does pick up massive power when cool out.

I ran the ebay junk, saw 8psi drop at 23 at the motor. Ran straight pipe non Ic at 19psi, then added the treadstone 1300hp intercooler and did nothing else. Boost was 18.1psi with the same controller settings and waste gate springs. .9psi at 19 is pretty dang good.

I love the fact that not a single one of you has had anything bad to say about Treadstone. This makes my decision very easy for reasonably a priced intercooler. Thanks!

Treadstone here.... 159mph in the quarter with a couple hundred rwhp left in the turbo. It rips and did 197mph 1/2 mile with massive traction issues.

I've used 6-7 of them. A great middle of the road option that performs well. American made core that is assembled in the USA, so they claim on the phone.

I know when I got the larger twin turbo one I also ordered a 3.5" outlet so we could mod the stock 3" outlet. When it came in it was already modified by Treadstone and looked decent. I don't even remember paying the difference, but at least it shows they can fab up stuff in house. Mine seemed to have a decent pack of turbulators vs my egay on my Audi.

Just got my Treadstone in the mail yesterday. Looks like a decent piece.

They sure do package it nicely.
