Default corvette c5 tt dual fuel

I'm a bit cash starved to move forward right now which leads to excessive contemplation, but here goes

I need to upgrade the engine, fuel system, and engine management on my c5 ttix twin turbo z06

I have a haltech s2000 which can control staged injectors

what I'm wanting to do is get a ls6 style proform polished aluminum intake (265) prepped so I can add a second set of injectors running e85

I will run a dedicated secondary 4303 off my existing 4 gal meth tank, and have the e85 come on as boost ramps up triggered by the haltech

so I have a few challenges, I need someone like Wilson or a cheaper source to weld on the bungs for the secondary injectors and make it look decent

I need to re-plumb my puke tank to move it further away from the air intake for the AC vents might put them in the rear of the car which seems the best approach

then I'll need a REALLY good tuner to install the Haltech, looking to Matt or ECS on this as the front runners, but I'll be doing this in a couple of months now that I have work again to get the car ready for spring

the concept is this, the existing racetronix plus BAP is fine for up to about 600 rwhp which is fine for croozin and the car runs great on 93 octane for most normal driving

and then the dedicated secondary FIC 127 injectors provide plenty of flow to fuel 800 hp or so of additional e85, meth, or race gas depending on the venue

primary injectors are 70 lb

and the secondary injectors are FIC 127 so I can even ramp down the primaries on pump gas, and go full "secondary injector" for higher boost

225 lb of fuel should be plenty as I'm never going to push more than 1k or so at the wheels

this is a bit Frankenstein I know, but the haltech has an 8 channel egt to help with tuning, and I want to have the low hassle of pump gas croozin, plus save $$ and expensive fill ups with race gas or the hassle of driving out of the way for e85 when traveling

another advantage is leaving the vette factory fuel system alone

I can run a dedicated heavy pump that only runs as needed

again the haltech has a nice sensor so you can monitor fuel pressure or a wide band target to dump boost or kill the sparc cool stuff

I'm trying to "pilot" this type of approach for other cars you keep the factory ecm and tune for crusing, running the dash, factory gizmo integration, and just add another set of dual fuel injectors to whatever platform to run under boost

tuning will certainly be a challenge in any event, but it always is anyway

Sometimes the fun of building a car is to put your own spin on things or take a different approach to get to your goal.

But with that said IMO I believe at the 1k whp level you are shooting for the secondary injector idea is a bit much. Since you are already using an aftermarket ecu then just integrate a flex fuel sensor run the 127lb inj and be done for a substantial discount over the other option.
Either way good luck with the build.

034 motorsports, makes a supplementary injector ECU, that is less than 300 bucks, and can control 1 to 10 high or low impendence injectors.

I like the idea you have, but a full ECU seems over kill, and expensive.

Only reason secondaries are around is for two reasons. Making retarded hp, or making decent hp, but shitty injectors made it hard to get good drivability with big injectors.

Being on a budget, get some ID2000s and be done. With all the data you get, it's so easy to get huge injectors to idle and drive better then stock.

Sounds pretty damn ambitious! As someone else said, why not integrate an ethanol content sensor and just fill the tank with e85 when you need it, and then fill it with pump gas when you don't and have the ECU take car of the tuning changes? Unless you plan on making retarded horsepower that will never be street-able, that seems like the best option. That being said, its your car, your money, your way haha. Let us know how it turns out

good advice, several things

1. I have the haltech, so that money is spen\t
2. I have a flex fuel sensor, but

3. entire fuel system will need an upgrade, the c5 has a PITA fuel system so it's VERY easy to just add another external pump and have the haltech bring it online at zero vac

4. the e85 is great stuff, but it's not so great to crooze on in terms of availability. I can buy a nice 55 gal drum and running e85 or alchy on the secondaries ONLY, it will last a long time

but yes, tuning dual fuel tables, and "phasing" the injectors, welding the bungs on an alum intake is tough, and squeezing all that under the hood is tough

I'm not sold on dual fuel, but it seems like a good way to go.

over kill on complexity is the concern.

here is one more reason to "explore" this technology

the modern vette and many others are "fuel system limited" but the driveability of the factory tune is great for mileage and all the "transitions" involved in running on the street. adding an IAC like a megasquirt and retaining the factory ECU and tune and just adding fuel up top has some appeal.

thanks for all the advice! any dual fuel fans out there? nelson and wheel to wheel are about the only vendors and wheel to wheel is gone and nelson is just out of my budget for sure.

Seems easier and cheaper just to upgrade the stock fuel system and let the ECU handle the switching between pump and E85 on the fly rather than plumbing an entirely new fuel, switching to a proven junk intake, welding new bungs, buying another set of large injectors and then tuning the transitions and such for the second set. Then worrying about fuel level in that secondary system after you have been out for a hard night of running.

Keep the stock fuel system for the 1st set of injectors. I run 14lb injectors on my first system on pump gas. I run 160's now on the 2nd system(had 225's before when on e98) in my mustang.

I use the holley efi, but have figured out how to do this on 2 stock ecus. It is much easier to use the aftermarket ecu and works great.

As far as the intake like you are talking, I have a bbk one for my ltd that I plan to use when it goes back together. It is setup for stock truck injectors on the bottom and shorty style injectors on the top.

nice work, I remember seeing your posts on dual ecms which is genius

I'd like to use a stock ecm and a megasquirt but since I've bought

haltech s2000
fic 127 bosch
champion 3" downpipes (expensive but beautiful)
.82 housings (*I have an early ttix kit which might have the 58 mm turbo)

iron block 4.8
4.0 lunati crank
wiseco 3.84 pistons

shopping for rods, rings, ls9 gaskets

I will be reusing the afr 225 heads

goal is 700 on pump gas with light meth

900 on e85 with maybe that same light meth (for fine tuning and extra fuel)

I'm stalled out on cash but need to buy

magnafuel 4303
fuel system lines/fittings (I have a nice regulator and fuel rails)

I also have some nice bling for the valve covers and I'll likely get started on those!

Run a 2nd tank, with fuel line into your engine bay and a check valve. Run a Y fitting to combine both of the fuel lines, and a GM flex fuel sensor after the Y. Then run the 127 lb injectors standard, you can make them idle great with the haltech. E98 in the smaller tank. Pump kicks on when you go into boost, pushes E98 up past the Y fitting into your flex fuel sensor, and the Haltech adjusts the injectors for the additional ethanol content.

I've seen dozens of similar setups.

that's a really good idea! if the flex fuel sensor can adapt that fast it will allow the alchy to come in hard with a big secondary pump

I already have a big rear mount 4 gal meth tank in the car now

I'm also looking at the ecs direct port meth which can just plumb into the stock ls6 intake

I'm a little surprised that the pro form intake is junk, I thought it used the same design as the ls6?

the haltech can also control the pump for the alchy system and I already have one on the car so that would be much easier

thanks for entertaining the ideas, I'm back employed now and hopefully have the mod money soon!
