Default well it fit

well after some reworking of my hot side I got the new turbo to fit where my tc78 used to be. it is not an easy fit with inner fenders in a nova . new turbo is a s480/83 t4 1.25 a/r. I did run a screamer pipe this time and so far my 38mm wastegate is doing fine. hold 10# the same as the tc78 did. I need to add a little fuel as my afr is closer to 12.0 with the bigger turbine. feels like a beast. still blows me away how hard this car runs with a powerglide and a 3.23 gear. still need a little cleaning up and im looking for something to paint the hot pipes with that will hold up. but it drives.

I have a ton of stuff to do under the hood. it's getting a new dual pass radiator and fans and I want to repaint all the hot and cold pipes and I have a spare intake im thinking about smoothing out and painting. just needs detailed up. thanks.

Do you have your intercooler with the openings on top or bottom, tough to tell from the picture. What does the charge pipe coming out of your turbo look like to make that bend? Car looks great btw!

it is a little different but not much. still spools good. but that is why I went 83 turbine and t4 1.25 . I didn't want to much lag. or to have to change my gear or convertor.

Mike, this is on a 6.0 right? I like the 83mm turbine on my LQ9. I need to see what kind of back pressure is present.

yes it is a 6.0 lq4. the old turbo was a 68 mm turbine with a .96 housing but the car ran good . im sure the backpressure was high but you whould'nt have known it. but my 206/212 cam might not mind the backpressure as much as a larger grind. and I keep it under 5800 rpm.

Soon, I just got the motor all back together cam, heads, studs and gaskets, everthing all buttoned up, and just got some sched 40 pipe to graft on the truck mani's with some vbands, so hopefully by the end of next month will be fitting turbo in the caddy

Looks like it was meant to be... Good to know the 38mm gate is controlling boost without issue. Do you get any creep in the upper RPM? How is your WG placement? I still get a little creep with 2 38mm above 6k.

really didn't give it a try at to much rpm. the roads were cold and it whould spin just about the time the wastegate opened at 40 in high gear.it makes it hard to watch the boost guage. but I did get a good hit and seen it was holding 10# boost steady for a few seconds. .lol.


I have the wastegate at a good location on an outside bend and it comes off at a 45 degree angle.it is just a screamer pipe right now. I thought id start that way and make sure the 38mm was big enuff before I merge it to the downpipe. thanks.
