What kind of fuel?

Assuming you didn't install a new plug, make a pass, shut it off immediately and pull the plug? Heat strap line looks good to me. Base ring looks dead rich like it's had alot of idle time?

Gasoline. Don't idle alot, just a warm up and go. Those were new. Probably 25-30 miles. Cruising, wot pulls, pretty much everything. AFR on wideband is dead on for whats being commanded. I figured with a cruise of 13.5-7 it woulda been more tan.

I cruise my car at 15:1. Why are you running yours so rich?

To get an accurate reading you can’t have 30 miles on a plug. You literally have to install a new plug before a WOT pass. Shut the car down immediately after the pass with zero run time and inspect the plug.

OK. I'll try to find a "safe" place/street to do it. Haha
I'll get back with my findings.

Not the case with low load situations. (cruise/idle) 14.7 should give you the most complete burn and should always be targeted. Some find slightly leaner nets better MPG. Either way you won't hurt it.

With some setups (usually CARB stuff) you may not get some popping and misfire at 14.7ish idle. So you’ll have to run it slightly richer. You want it as close to 14.7 as you can get while still maintaining a decent idle. Same with cruise IMO. You can go even leaner at cruise, bottom line is you won’t hurt it.

Some claim 15-16:1 is better at cruise. While that sounds better, usually it results in less power being extracted from each ignition event. IMO There’s a reason OEM stuff targets 14.7 all the time. Just have to play with it and see what works best for you. Leaner the AFR the less “soot” you’ll have on your base ring though. You’ll probably see your brownish plugs then.

It really takes quite a lot of street driving to get to that tan color.

I'd expect a new plug to look just like that after a bit of time.

I agree on the idle and cruise. 14.7 is dandy.

OK, thanks for the input guys.
On a side note is 1% IDC normal at idle? I'm assuming it is because of the larger than stock injectors.

There is nothing about that plug that says lean. It looks rich as hell to me.

Yea, i realized i was lookin at it all wrong. Temp is good, but definitely rich. I made my cruise and idle leaner to make it cleaner and more efficient.

The line on the ground strap is an indication of heat in the cylinder which is typically used to dial in timing.

So would in the middle like this be good? If there was too much or too little timing where would the mark be?

and....
cut the thread section off the plug and inspect the fuel ring at the bottom of the white electrode

or
get a 8x or 10x eye piece to read / see the fuel ring doen the bottom , if you don't cut off the threads with a 4 or 5 inch cut off wheel on grinder...
