Default PT88 vs PT8285 vs ???

Currently have a PT88 on a 5.3. Looking forward to the winter to get a bit better spooling turbo but keep the power potential. Was looking at the PT8285 unit. Anyone have any good experience with one? Also has anyone stuffed different guts in the PT88 housing?

I'm not sure how it's different from the 88 but the pt8285 spools slightly slower than my old pt7675 but honestly it's pretty negligible. The only downside is the pt8285 is costly. How much power are you looking to make? If modest I'd recommend a pt7675 as its a little more affordable but spools rather quickly making it a fun turbo on the street

I currently make ~681 SAE through the auto/tires at 16 psi on pump gas. My buddy has a 7475 and honestly the 75mm exhaust side is just too small.

spend the $$ onna 6.0.. more hp per lb and same $$ as switching turbos and ull spool quicker. For people that worry about spooling i dont understand why these mismatched combos get matched up.. i have a s480 onna 416 and its spools very quickly on the street and makes crazy power still.. for drag strip cars i understand the smaller strokes and cubic inches and bigger turbos to make the turbo efficient.. but for the street i think the opposite

The engine combo isn't that bad. The PT88 is OLD turbo technology which is why I am asking the question. I have a built 5.3....swapping engines would be asinine.

You'll be able to make that and then some on a pt7675 so I wouldn't think it's too small by any stretch. I pushed that turbo into the 9's on a 346ci and given the smaller cubes I'd think that it would be ideal for a 5.3. Just my opinion of course. Also I believe the pt7675 is rated slightly higher than the older pt88. If you're looking to retain the same power potential and gain spool time I think it's ideal.

What do you trap with the 88?

I was gonna switch up my 76gts for an 88 but now you are making me rethink that.

Until you max out the PT88... its pointless to even discuss a different turbo...

turn it up till it makes about 900 rwhp...

Only way an 8285 spools quicker than a PT88 is if its a ball bearing unit and the PT88 isnt.

681 rwhp... you aren't even making what you have work hard yet.

I had a pt 88 and I thought there was an early and a late and the exhaust wheel was either a 92 or an 87mm exhaust wheel.

Here is your pt88 on the heavy side with 17'' wheels on a 6.0

It will work better with your 5.3 if you let it.

i later moved to a 91mm that drops in the 88 ex. housing.
