If its anything like my shitty 16" fan with no shroud you might be ok. I don't run a thermostat though.

That's a damn shame.

Reminds me so much of mine. Hope it all works out for you.

Still need to get the radiator flushed and run a vac line to the trans. Then grab some new tires for the front, and it should be road worthy at that point.

That cam has a killer lope! I wil be anxious to see how it works in a turbo application!

Sorry you got burned on the deal but I think you should keep it. That car looks really nice. It sits perfectly and certainly isn't the average LS swap.

Keep up the good work, and please post more progress pictures!

Shortened a MIG tip and tuned it down on my bench grinder so it fit into a an Alum "T" fitting. No idea where I got this "T" but it worked very well. I tapped the tip in with a hammer and soldered it. Then used a spare check valve I had laying around.

Finished putting the engine bay back together and took the car for a cruise. Drives like a race car, but still streetable.

Shifted just fine in "D" and made it to the gas station and back without any leaks or overheating. Goes dead rich with any kind of throttle. Tune is way off at this point. I was fighting daylight today so I'll have to save tuning for next week. Taking a week off to go to a friends wedding in Orlando.

Had a guy follow me home to check the car out, it turns alot of heads with no hood and that crazy idle lope! Looks like a big block with those valve covers.

Mostly finished engine bay... The oil filter is just there to filter oil to the turbo. Plan to relocate that in fender later.

Heres the fan setup.

Thanks! Hoping the cam will be alright turbo wise as it's still a negative 2* overlap @ .050 I think the really low lift (.510) and the 220/220 duration starve it a bit airwise at idle, and that gives it a nasty lope. Guessing I won't be able to run more than 10lbs of boost. The billet S480 with race cover is overkill for this setup, doubt I'll have any real back pressure at low boost.

assuming that is a second oil filter? Why the need for added filtration?

Paranoia mainly. Previous owner tapped the oil galley plug to feed the turbo. Figure if I end up making a bunch of metal with this motor it won't take the turbo out. We used these setups on the turbo buicks all the time. Called "turbo savers". I had this one sitting around from my buick days. I have a smaller inline filter ordered, but this adds another QT of oil to the system so I may keep it. Looks like I've got a ton of space just opposite the brake master in the fenderwell. It also had a pressure gauge mounted on it so I could watch the oil pressure. Don't have a gauge for that yet.

I just used a $12 "goldenrod" inline filter top. And bought a hydraulic oil spin on filter from MCmaster.

I totally remember the FS thread on that car a while back.
All the pics looked very good but I noticed that they were all taken from a distance which usually means they trying to "HIDE" things. Sorry to see the bs you dealing with. Looks to be sorted out now. I'm sure it will run good when done. What trans is in it ? Didn't read all the above

A buddy of mine is using a -6 screen type fuel filter in his Turbo feed line, I considered dong it. Then spun all my bearings a week later...FAIL

Sorry to hear about the crap you've had to go through. I know the feeling. I watched my Nova get tossed around the family and talked about how it had 'this and that' done to it. When I finally got my hands on it, it turned out to be a rotted, rusted, busted, falling apart mostly stock P.O.S. I've had to replace literally everything other than the Unibody (I did replace the floors, front subframe and rear frame rails) and glass (which is getting replaced before paint).

I was pretty excited when I seen that you had a Z, since from seeing your posts it seems that we tend the think a lot alike and I've always wanted a Z for myself.. so I'm kinda living vicariously through you right now.

Good luck with whatever you finally decide to do with it.

Yup, pretty stupid on my part! I was feeling “white-trash rich” since I had just sold 2 other cars. Just bought my wife’s 34k mazda SUV as well, so I was telling myself 12k wasn’t all that much money. Now when I drive around town or cruise the FS AD’s I compare what I could have to what I paid for the 280. “Could had 2 those… 3 of those”

I don’t think I’ll lose a ton of money. And no matter how much I complain about it, I do like working on/fixing up these old cars. Just wish I could make a little money for once. Paying to work on them or breaking even is getting old.

It's just temporary to make me more comfortable about street driving it. It's an edelbrock foam carb filter. I still have the "turbo guard" screen under it. I'm sure it's restrictive as hell. But I'm pretty limited clearance wise.

Think I paid $16 for it on ebay awhile back.

All these people driving around without a filter on their turbo are nuts, as far as i am concerned! That old edelbrock carb air filter fits in there pretty nicely.

I love this car! I would be willing to bet that you can get you're money out of it if you just sit on it for a while and stay firm with you're price. I'd keep it if it were mine!
