boost with stock notched pistons
boost with stock notched pistons Well I'm looking at going with some forced induction, but I currently have stock notched pistons (for my H/C setup). Basically what I was wondering was would the stock short block (mostly concerned about the pistons) hold up to the boost (moderate boost -- maybe 500 rwhp for the time being as an estimate) while I pieced together the forged shortblock?
I think you will be OK, plenty of guys with stock notched pistons with heads/cam and spraying on top of that to well over 500. The weak part of the stock pistons is the ring land area, seldom see a hole blown through the top unless something was really wrong. Just get a decent tune and dont get greedy..
I would think a cam swap would be in order though if you are going to a turbo, thats a pretty radical cam

Thanks for the reply. Yeah the 235/239 will be coming out for sure. Believe it or not its not even that radical a cam -- best running/idleing/A/c friendly cam I have had yet (out of 3).

yea, the newer fast ramp cams arent bad at all. Just did a C5 with a G5X3 and an auto and was amazed how well it idled - sounded bad *** though

Yeah takin a good hard look
With my LTs and GMMG and cam I get so many people asking me if the car has a big block, or "is that a race motor", etc. Sound is awesome -- I'll miss that, but the turbo has its own nice sounds.

The grass is always greener on the other side you know.. I still may go back to heads/cam/nitrous soon, I bracket race this car quite a bit and the blower is fun but I can probably run the same with a good head/cam setup. Its kind of cool running 10s with a 100% stock motor though and the blower is paid for so I may as well use it..
