Default Help with alternator wiring ??????

I have a turbo 5.3 with corvette accesories. It is a corvette alt. I can get a part# if needed but anyways. I have my battery power wire to starter post and a wire from the starter to my alternator. The plug that goes on alt. I have is a 1 wire. I put a resistor inline and hooked it to key on. I get maybe 13 volts charging. Is this correct ? I can disconnect the plug on alt. and voltage does not change. I have disconnected battery while car was running and voltage does not change so that tells me alt. is working. After car is run for 20-30 min. And is warm it starts hard. Wouldn't I see a voltage change with disconnecting the alt. plug ? Battery is new and starter is new and has dei heat shield. Any info ? Any other ways to check and see if it is def. charging ?

You can take it to the parts store and they can check it for free. As for voltage, it is charging. Check the battery voltage without the engine running and then check it with the engine running. If its higher when running, its charging. But normally they should put out mid 13 volts up to about 14 max. 13 volts is still charging though.

Ok thanks. Maybe I have to change a timing setting for start up after its warm. Starts great when cold but as soon as it gets heat in it it starts hard doesn't wanna crank real easy.

Most likely the hard start when hot is the starter getting hot from the exhaust.

I thought the heat wrap shield would prevent that. And my dump pipe runs a few inches from it but it is also wrapped. Had them test the starter and it checked out but that wasn't while it was hot and on the car either.

Yea its a big problem in race setups and engines. They get pretty hot no matter what we do to keep them cool.

My LQ4 does the same thing. Still starts every time, just cranks slower. And the alternator is charging at about 13.5v
