Default Keeping car cool

ON3 non ac kit Trans am here. I was wondering how are you guys keeping your cars cooler in this summer heat?? I have 2 12" derale fans on a stock radiator and wrapped my hot side piping but need to go is wrapping the driver side half way and also a 160 t stat. The color stays cool when driving around 185-200 degrees but when I am idle the temperature gets up to 220 degrees

Where is the turbo mounted? Im currently using a stock 3rd gen rad (thicker than the LS1) with a STOCK 16" 1987 fan and my car stays around 165-175 degree's when the car is moving. Also the fan does not run over 30mph or so.

If you are dead seat on a stock rad you could pick an LT1 rad up, they have a thicker core than the LS1 rads

Do you have an air dam on the car still? if not make sure you get one on there. These cars are bottom feeders.

There's a new overheating thread every 2 days, just scroll down and read what everyone else is doing. If you don't have room for nice aftermarket radiator, get fans that flow 6000+cfm and a good shroud. That seems to fix 90% of the problems.

FWIW 220* isn't too hot. My stock C5 sees 220-225 everyday. Second fan doesn't even kick on till 225. I'm not suggesting you race with it at those temps, but they aren't hurting anything sitting in traffic.

Goof luck.

Whilst the above is true...if he has a 160deg stat and his fans are on flat out from say 180deg...then temperature vastly exceeding either of those temperatures IS a problem as he is not in control.

Ensure fans are mounted correctly, flowing correctly, have adequate power supply, and airflow through the rad etc and also out of the engine compartment is efficient.
