Default SBE Turbo LS2 - Please Come Inside

Getting ready to buy a Gen IV 6.0L iron block from Summit for a SBE turbo setup with Gen IV rods and pistons to match the ET/MPH in my sig. However, for another $100 I can get an LS2 block. The 80# off the nose of the car is nice but wondering about the aluminum block having issues at that power level without pinning the mains or is that more of an issue with Gen III LS1 and LS6 blocks?

Curious to hear what kind of power guys are making with turbo SBEs or what ET/MPH you are running. Would need the weight to help estimate power. Everything being equal, less weight on the nose could help the 60' and contribute to a quicker ET or require a little less power for the same ET.

Appreciate hearing from anyone.

If it's stock bottom end parts, I would imagine that you will be fine with the aluminum block.

Powdered metal rods or hyper pistons will probably let go before the genIV alloy block.

Looking at summit... It looks like the LS2 alum block is $1121? And the Iron is $400? Where are you getting a $100 price difference? (was looking at blocks myself)

Looks like my info was wrong so I removed it.

Here's a good discussion in blocks... Sounds like the weak point on the alum is at the top of the cyl by water jackets. But reportedly fine for around 1000 hp.

2jzfc: I see your in orlando, im in daytona! I dont know who your using for machine work but i used Express Machine in Deland by deland skydive. Awesome guys to deal with and they so great work on LS motors. To be honest, the weight savings are nice but for the security i would just stay iron block. I know a few nitrous guys that have had issues in the past with main bearin problems with the alum block. Not sure if the block can be filled like an iron block due to heat/expansion.

I don't think he's wanting to buy the LS2 block new.

Whichever block I buy will be new.

Iron - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-12609999
LS2 - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-12602691

Plan is to measure cyl and main bores, gap rings (new Mahles), plastigage to double-check and assembly if clearances are in line.

Its not a DD but is never towed, so no block filling. Not looking to compete, just drive to/from the track and fun-run 8.69x. Hard to make a decision based on nitrous experience because I don't know how big a hit and how it was tuned. I think lots of nitrous is harder on the block that boost with E85 and reasonable timing. Would love to hear from some turbo LS2 folks.
