I'm not excited.

I agree, I was hesitant at first. A quick search on YB showed the truth.

I am with you on this. It would be interesting for some engineer to step in here and do the math and figure out how much force we are talking about.

Rolls Royce decided to keep the exhaust stacks on the merlin and later Griffon engines because it was netting then something like an additional 400lbs of thrust. This was on circa 2000-2500bhp engines.

They had looked at turbocharging but felt the added thrust was better.

I am sure you are correct but do you have a source?

Straight from Wikipedia about a top fuel beast

At maximum throttle and RPM, the exhaust gases escaping from a dragster's open headers produce about 4.0–4.9 kilonewtons (900–1,100 lbf) of downforce. The massive airfoil over and behind the rear wheels produces much more, peaking at around 53 kilonewtons (12,000 lbf) when the car reaches a speed of about 530 km/h (330 mph).

I remember a while back, Hot Rod magazine had a top fuel dragster fun fact list that had all sorts of crazy stuff you would never think of.

Jack Beckmans F/C team enjoyed a performance edge for a bit this year due to header angle.

Speaking of exhaust. I was in a meeting with a F/C crew chief earlier this year. He said that a one point they had changed the firing order of their engine and found some performance. That all ended when a sharp crew chief from another team was watching an ESPN Super Slo Mo shot of the car leaving, and realized the firing order was different.

Those guys are on it !

So if a 10,000hp top fuel makes 1,100 lbs of down force at full throttle than a 2,000hp car makes roughly 200.. I suppose I can see that helping keep the front end down. Just seems like there would be more to it than that. Speed of the vehicle angle etc. etc.

You don't think adding 200lbs to front of a radial car will make a difference. Lol.

What part of "I suppose I can see where 200lbs would help keep the front end down" did you not understand?

I'm sorry that my skepticism over articles I read on the Internet seems to have offended you. I would be glad to repeat my though process but you seem to have issues paying attention and reading.

I have to say when I first started reading this I was 100% with oscs. I was going to comment something along the lines of " this is bs lock this thread down." I never would think that was possible.

Totally learned something today. Im kinda blown away by this right now haha.

Hanging 20 lbs on the front of an outlaw drag radial car can be the difference in making it down the track, a power wheelie or smoking the tires. Also a lot of bull horns will run a v band clamp were it exits the bumper cover so the angle can be easily rotated.

This is pretty cool. I literally LOL'd at the beginning of this thread. This is obviously bullshit... what a surprise. Cool stuff
