Default can i get some help reading these plugs

these were missing above 5000rpm and have about 1500miles on them. i dont know anything about reading plugs but these dont look so good to me.

i am running leaded race fuel and the fuel is red in color, i also use the wideband regularly so i know the a/f ratio is prety close. i monitor for knock retard too and am able to avoid it. are these plugs too hot? they are tr6's. if so what plug should i change to?

i did a search and found this page http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/techinf...q/faqread2.asp the only pic that looks like what i have is "lead fouling" that would kind of make sence since i am running leaded fuel. anyone know if it is normal to kill a set of plugs in less than 2000miles? i would think there is still something wrong going on here since all fuel used to be leaded and they got more than 2000miles on a set.

if you ask me your plugs look fine except for the ornge tit, whichis like you said from the color of the gas. the thing i can't understand is the "wet" look the plug has ( i get the same on mine), could it be from oil seeping through somewhere ? or is it from the additives in gas?

the plugs are not wet, it is more like a shiny, clear, dry coatiing. kind of like glazed. with these plugs i prety much hit a wall at 5200rpm, change the plugs and now i rev to 6500easy. they also pulled fine at lower rpms, no missing or anything.

i dont mind changing plugs every 1000miles if i need to, it will allow me to keep an eye on things, tr6's are cheap too.

could it be that you are running lean somewhere in your rpm range where it causes the plug to glaze??
oh and by the way, i love your truck! i got your vids and i can't get the sound of your turbos out of my mind

Jim, that's how a lot of leaded fuel plugs look but 1500 miles is awefully quick to kill a set. Those look like TR6's, I'd try a set of Autolite 103's instead and pull #1 and 7 after about 500 miles and compare them to the NGK's. Not sure why, but I kill NGK's quicker on leaded fuel than Autolites.

I think Black specks are either carbon or aluminum from the top of your piston, from detonaion. I know with 2-stroke bikes, if the plating is burned past the halfway point on the ground strap, the plug is too hot. From the photos, it looks like your plating is burned down about even with the ceramic.

here is a good link- Look at the glazed plugs for an explanation on what is going on. http://www.verrill.com/moto/sellingg...colorchart.htmYou need a colder plug to stop the glazing.

What a neat link Steve!!!

Jim, I have been running a set of NGK TR8's from my 746rwhp dyno pull to a week ago. I just changed over to a set of Delco plugs that Kurt reccomended, but I will probably keep a box of each on hand over the next month or so.

that is a sweet site

"Glazing appears as a yellowish, varnish-like color. This condition indicates that spark plug temperatures have risen suddenly during a hard, fast acceleration period. As a result, normal combustion deposits do not have an opportunity to "fluff-off" as they normally do. Instead, they melt to form a conductive coating and misfire will occur."

hmm, like when i hit the button

now is seth would just tell me about the black spots not being good news

http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/jetfaq.html

This site is for jetting yamaha banshee's, but I think the plug reading info is kinda helpful.

Go about 3/4 down the page to the big drawing of a plug.

John, TR8's are probably too cold for your setup.

Jim...you know I like to keep you in suspense

Seth, I'm not sure TR6's would be cold enough.

I am running a Delco right now.

i am going with the 103's because Seth said to try them, i have alot of faith in that guy, this turbo kit was his baby.

how much hp, i really have no idea but i ran over 100mph in the 1/8th. here are the numbers from smokemup.com. i used my 1/8mph because i shifted way late into 3rd and lost some mph up top. for me 2nd goes to over 100mph.

You Entered:
Vehicle Weight - 4700 (lbs)
Trap Speed - 100.45 (mph)
Drivetrain Loss - 20 (%)

Results:
Rear Wheel HP - 646.9
Crankshaft HP - 808.6
