Just called them and they said that the turbo was apart, bearings ordered and that it should be ready next week.
Cool!

I spoke to jose on the 28th I believe. sometime last week. said the part on back order would be there the following day and that might would be ready to ship back. giving them the benefit since the holidays and shipping is crazy. going to call next monday to hear something.

communication has been fine the last several times with him. his hands are tied in my situation that hes waiting on the part. its a shitty deal, but its nothing to be pissed at jose about.

Well, they just called me. Note to self, don't ship for repairs anywhere around the holidays because all the major manufacturers are closed for PRI and don't return to work till the 2nd week of January. Jose said the parts are scheduled to be there Jan 8th and will ship back to me shortly thereafter.

Hoping so!

Thanksgiving to January is the worst time of the year to try and get anything done... with PRI right in between... its difficult to get anything done.

Still haven't heard if they've fixed it or anything. Called again, got voice mail. Left a message.

Something just dawned on me...

You sent Jose a precision turbo to rebuild... even though Precision doesn't release replacement parts to anyone...

So are you having Jose try and chase down all the parts he needs to rebuild your precision turbo without using precision turbo parts??

That's fine, but don't tell me it will take two weeks and then it takes two months. That was the case with mine. Then my turbo came with a standard cover when I ordered (and was charged for) a race cover.

I have to say, I didn't see anything that said, "Don't send us Precision Turbo's for rebuilds because we/they can't get any parts". I just saw everyone say, "Forced Inductions.com is the place to get your turbo serviced". Believe me, If I'd known that was the case (Precision won't release parts) I'd have either sent it to them(Precision Turbo) or sold it as junk.

Jose (or someone from FI.com) called me 2 hours ago and told me exactly what you'd said in your post. That PT doesn't sell parts, so basically, FI.com has to scrounge around and find parts that are either salvaged from other PT or substitute parts from similar turbos. They now have a couple of parts mine needed but are still seeking other parts. It could be another 6 months or longer till they find the parts.

Thanks,
Dave

I sent my little T-Netics 66/65 in there for a new turbine shaft replacement. I also included a new shart from Turbonetics.

A couple of weeks went by and I decided to reach out. Didn't get an answer, but kept calling every day until someone did answer. They received the turbo and shaft, assured me they'd get on it and send it back asap.
I received it the next week. It was like 90 buck plus a small shipping charge to remove the old shaft, reinstall the new shaft an seals as well as balance the rotating assembly.
Got it the next week and all is good.

Just keep on them. I know they're busy and the reputation for CS isn't the best. But there prices and experiences are...

Good luck, just keep on them and you'll be happy in the long run.

I have bought 3 turbos from jose and every single one has been at my doorstep when he said it would be. He also returns my calls in a timely fashion.

Purchasing a Turbo from them , bing, bam ,boom... as you said, great response and here on my doorstep. But repairs are different. I've come to realize that PT are a special context. They don't sell parts for their turbo's , so that leaves FI.com to scrounge around for compatible pieces to substitute. My fault, not theirs.

With that said, Jose called at lunch today, said they're shipping today. They gave me a run down on what was wrong and what they'd replaced. Looking forward to getting it and putting it on my new 5.3.

Thanks everyone for your input.
Dave
BTW - one odd thing about my unit, Jose said it was way off on the balance. To a point where he suggested it hadn't ever been balanced. I bought it brand new in 2012 with the Billet wheel. Don't know what to say, except I'm glad it's balanced now.
