1980 Fairmont Wagon Build
Something caught my eye about the throttle body. There's a plug filling what must be a hole in the TB blade. Is the plug supposed to be there. A quick search found a lot of guys actually enlarging the hole, but I believe those were patches for poorly tuned idle situations. Having said that, Last time I had this thing running, it wouldn't start unless I cracked the throttle. It would idle, but barely. I've been told that the MS3 IAC schematic shows the wrong wiring for the IAC. I've never used one so I figured if simply unplugging this hole would help and is a normal thing why not. Can anyone shed some light on this?
I have the Edelbrock 90MM TB, and they have a screw that can let in more air, which I played with, just not enough, prob eq. to that hole in the blade.
I had been running on last years tune, if I had paid more att. to where the IAC was at idle, I prob could have fixed it sooner, lol

I need to add the post pump filter and tighten the fuel system and hopefully she'll fire this weekend.

This is going to have to work until I get another aluminum 90*. I welded a beveled end to the aluminum piece as a preventative measure. I've had bad luck with couplers blowing off is the past.

I got the fuel system complete. Pre and post filters have been added and the filter elements replaced. All that's left is to add the ground to the pumps. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
Another thing I wanted to show is the clearance of the truck intake to the stock hood using a Team Z k-member. The hood lacks full closure by maybe .5" in these pictures. With the holes cut in the inner fenders for the coldside and the fenders off, it gave a decent shot of the top of the intake. The pictures don't give the best perspective, but there's got to be close to an inch of clearance.

I tried to start it for the heck of it and got nothing. I figured it should have at least coughed or something since I'm using the exact same setup that ran in the coupe just a few short months ago. Turns out I screwed up with my relay wiring and what I thought was a 12v switched AND start was not. So I had no coils or injectors in keyed start. Got that fixed and gave it another go. Still nothing. I'm going to rebuild the tune going through the "pre start" checklist to make sure my injectors, coils and sensors are operating as they should be. I hope to have a running wagon this weekend.
Nice wagon, it should be a ton of fun. FEP might be adverse to fun. I was careful when I asked some questions on there before not too let anyone know my car is Chevy powered.
Got the vacuum lines plumbed.

Got the line lock and front brakes hooked up.

Got the trans cooler installed. I used spacers to move the cooler out from the inner fender. I also had to make the lower bracket.

Of course I can't leave things alone and keep it moving forward. Pulled all of the plastics so I can dye them. most of the pieces were actually in good shape, but a couple were faded pretty bad.

I've seen started a deck build that has taken all my spare time and resources. So, as close as this thing is to being road worthy, it'll have to wait.
