ls1 block forged short block questions
I currently have a 02 lq4, cam, s475 turbo. Considering building a forged short block to use all the turbo I have. Found a local ls1 short block with a spun bearing for $400. I could use my same cam and turbo because it was spec'd for a 347-364 cu in. I would also lose some weight.
1) Is this a fair price?
2) Would the ls1 block hold up to all the s475 has?
3) Could I get away with using the scat i beam rods?

The arp2000 bolts ate supposed to be good towards 1100ish. Its the other ARP bolts, the 8740s that are good to 800ish (or so I've heard). Also, from what I've seen on here, nobody has maxed out an LS1 block, just gotten bad tunes.

These are the scat I beams I am looking at. They come with arp2000 bolts. Only plan to spin motor to 6200-6500. I think this also may help reliability. Anyone use I push these over 1000 hp?

Im sure they will at least for a while if you keep the rpm down, stock gen 3 rods have done it. I had the 8740 bolt version and made 700whp through an unlocked 4l80e on a mustang dyno which I would imagine is damn close to 900chp. My setup was all done by 6000rpm though. When I emailed scat before I bought mine iirc they said the 8740 bolt version was rated at 750whp.

As for power handling-are you making 1000chp @ 3000rpm or 6000rpm? really peak torque is the concern here. I am sure they will hold 1000chp, with peak torque after 4k. Anything earlier and you will be looking at 1100-1200 ft lbs, and I would be a little leery.

I'm also curious about this. I have a LS1 that I'd like to do forged pistons and h-beam rods to push my TC78 to 15-20lbs. What does everyone recommend for pistons and rods? I'll be all in by 6K and probably be living around 15lbs w/ meth. No real hp goal just what ever it makes so hopefully 700rwhp with CNC ported truck heads and custom turbo cam. Also what recommendations on bearings and rings would be great as well as any other info or recommendations for shoring up the short block.

I would think peak torque would come after 4k full boost comes in around there on my lq4. Will be using same cam and turbo in the forged ls1. Its a tick turbo cam spec'ed for 346-364cu, 228/231 . When does the peak torque come in generally of turbo?
