Default Turbo Size and CR Suggestions

I'm doing a spare parts beater/sleeper build, good way to free up some space at the shop and have some cheap fun.

Got a 92 S10 Ext Cab Short Box
2002 5.3l (Stock Short Block)
BTR Cam after I figure out Turbo Size and etc etc
Topped w reworked 68cc 317s

4l65e that may turn into a TH350 or TH400 Rossler (Still on the fence)

Explorer 8.8 3.55 clogs

Turbo will go In the Bed Behind the Cab

My CR is 8.5:1, Ive been told to put some smaller CC heads on it to get the CR up but the only other heads I have on hand are stock 98 F-Body heads....

Was looking at a Borg Warner S series but size and AR are over my head on this.....First Turbo LS

Like a fast Spool for the street and some good pull up top also

S366 with the 73mm turbine will give you appx 650-700 to the wheel and spool very nicely, its one of the cheapest OEM quality turbos and since you dont have space constraints I'd say its the best choice.

S472 with a 1.10 A/R and 83mm turbine is cheaper than the S366/73.

Goal just to go as fast as possible as cheap as possible?

How are you calculating compression? Compressed thickness of the HG you're using?

I ran untouched 317 heads on a dished piston 5.3 with the LS9 gasket and figured about 8.6:1. With the smaller CC's 317's I doubt you're at 8.5:1. About 8.99:1 by my math if you used the .051 LS9 gasket.

Personally I wouldn't fart around with the smaller turbos. Jump right into a T6 1.32 S475 for $640 shipped. Run 2" piping from each manifold to each side of the scroll on the S475.

Go TH400 or Glide with a trans brake with a PTC converter spec'd by dusty and it will spool plenty fast. I could make 25-30+lbs on the T-brake easily on my S475. "Spool" is overrated, go with a big exh. wheel and housing right off the bat IMO. Use a little nitrous to spool it up if you have to. The extra top end pull and ability to run a more aggressive cam is worth it.

The goal is Fast and cheap don't mix usually lol
600whp-700whp
But yes that is the goal, I really don't wanna have to use spray to get it to spool up
If I remember right I used the stock thickness head gasket....

I was gonna run 2"-2.25'' Dia exhaust from the shorty headers to the Turbo in the bed to try and keep the exhaust speed up and hot.
Ive got 8ft from the motor to where the Turbo will be located, blow it right into the Intercooler in the bed (Will have a nice opening in the bed floor for air to come up and prb direct the air up into it) w a return pipe back up thru the cab and into the TB, Intake Manifold will be 180 around towards the Firewall
So ill have a 8ft trip back to the Turbo and 8ft back up to the motor on the cold side, kinda want a quick spool up for the street and make it fun

Where are you guys finding these cheap Turbo prices?
Only place ive seen s475s for that cheap is Ebay and are those legit BW Turbos or knock offs?
