Default What am I doing wrong?

I have a 2002 SS that I had someone do a 5.3 swap and put a turbo and intercooler in it. It was running hot. So I decided I would do the stand up radiator mod. I bought the Griffin 55241 radiator and the Saab fans. I'm keeping the a/c so the condenser needs to fit also. I cut out the front like everyone has done in all the threads I found and for the life of me, I can not make it fit. What am I doing wrong?!?!?

What area or areas are not fitting properly? Is it too wide, fans hitting? Little more info needed.

The condenser, radiator and fans won't fit in with the turbo. The fans hit the turbo. There's not enough room. And I'm afraid to cut any further forward. The bottom angle upward also. So it's not fitting right.

if you remove the fans how much room do you have between rad and turbo?

Not much. And that's only if I tuck the condenser under the edge where I cut.

The stock fans and shroud was removed. And some small cheap fans were put due to room issues

In your picture, is that the fan/shroud setup you are trying to use? Not to insult, but was the system purged to make sure all of the air was removed? I just did a swap and the temps were above 220 with stock 1967 dual core radiator and once we did the funnel trick and added roughly 3/4 of a gallon it will hold 190 all day.

Yes, I'm sure. It did fine on the interstate but the minute I got stuck in Florida traffic with the a/c on, it was all over but the crying.

I would say that the support needs to be completely cut away at the top and new bracing made to support the top of the radiator and hood latch. Other option is try to use fans as pushers in front of the condenser if the room allows and you can keep the radiator a little farther back.

What size is your turbo and how close is it to the water pump? Might need to move the turbo closer to the motor.

Unfortunately I never got the size from the guy who did the build for me and since he screwed me big time on the whole project, we're not speaking. So I don't know what size it is. But, it sits between the motor and the radiator. In the first picture it's got a white rag stuffed in it.

Depending on how close it is to the crank and its physical size you'll probably have to switch to pusher fans on the front side of the radiator.

Are you trying to use the stock condenser?

Yes. It appears that after some more research, what most have done is completely cut off the front top support and welded a bar across. I can't find mention of what they've done with the bottom support though.

I used a 12x24 condenser with a different fan setup though. It helps to kick the bottom of the radiator forward more without cutting out the bottom support. Maybe that will help?
