Default Turbo hotside question

I'm building a truck manifold kit for my 4.8 swap. I get really confused on pipe size (outside diameter and Radius and such) can some some tell me the specs of the pipe I need. I know I want a 2.5 cross over and 3 inch down pipe. I just don't know how to select the right size piping looking on the summit or jegs site

What are your goals? I seriously doubt you need 2.5" up pipes, especially with a 3" DP. www.mandrel-bends.com will have what you need. 16 Gauge steel 2" to 2.25" will be fine. The smaller diameter increases the velocity of the exhaust gases and spools the turbo faster in most cases. Radius is typically 3" on that size pipe. Radius means the bend radius. If you were able to bend it in a circle, it would be 6" in diameter.

What he said. 2" - 2.25" are going to work much better for you than 2.5".

So the outside diameter is the actual size of the pipe? 3 inch or whatever size?

Yes. The gauge is the thickness.

Yes, that'd be good. That's what I used on my 5.3 Tick stage 2 cam, ON3 7875 build.

Yes. I dunno If you're gonna need that much piping. I bought the 6 piece kit and ended up doing the crossover with 2 45 degree bends and 1 u-bend. Have 3 peices left over.

I haven't finished the build, but I am expecting 600-650 at the wheel.

If anyone lives near north Carolina I can hook em up I work at a fab shop we don't get bonuses and stuff so they give me all the free pipe and stuff I want. Now I did use heavier duty stuff than a lot of guys but I have less than 50$ in my entire Turbo kit that I built at work not counting turbo of course. Sch 10 2.5 crossover and I used junkyard aluminum drive shafts that were no good for the charge pipe setup. If your close by and need any plate or pipe I'd be willing to help or even do some welding

So if I use 2.25 piping do I merge to 2.5 or keep it 2.25?

depends what your going to merge into. T4 or T6
I'm like the rest 2.25 "but" into an undivided T6

You would bring them together at the T4 flange, that is where they typically will merge.
You can get flanges that make this easier, otherwise you'll have to shape the ends of the pipe.

Section them and merge in to the t4. 2.25 into a T4 is the simplest to build though IMHO. Or just save yourself the headache and buy a prefabbed one.

Could be a pain depending on where you place your turbo. I found out the hard way after I started building it that was dependent on specific placement swore never do it again and go straight to a billet block.

This is what I would do as well, there are several really nice T4/6 flange options out there that make fabrication super easy, well worth the cost for the savings in time and headache.
