Turbo selection suggestions needed
Turbo selection suggestions needed I just picked up a 5.3 LMG from a 2012 Tahoe with 50K miles on it to swap into my 1954 Chevy truck.
I am planning on keeping the engine stock for now as any higher than 450-500hp and my 6l80 transmission wont last... Based on several budget builds ive read for the 5.3, I am thinking those numbers can be achieved at ~5-6psi. I plan on adding an intercooler to this setup, but I also have the option to run E85 if needed.
The truck this is going into weighs just under 6000lbs, so I'd like a turbo that spools quickly so I can get low end power.
I'm not sure what additional information is needed for this selection, but here are a few numbers on the engine:
HP: 320
TQ: 335
CR: 9.6:1
Injectors: 36 lb/hr

If you ran a 4L80e you wouldn't be so power limited. Doesn't the CTSv run the same trans and plenty are making 600-700rwhp?
If those are shorty injectors you could swap in CTSv stock 56lb and meet your goals on pump gas or just go to 80s.

Stock 4l80e & 6l80 are pretty much the same from a strength perspective. The CTS-V had a 6l90 instead of 6l80 trans. I can upgrade the trans to handle more power, but I dont have 5 grand to spend on a transmission that will handle 800wph. Based on that, I plan on limiting the engine power for now. I can always bump it up later.
