Smile billet S480?

I have zero experience with turbo selection, and was hoping to find an answer to my question.
I am slowly building a 70 Camaro. I plan to use a 6.0 with LS3 heads. I haven't picked out a cam yet.
The plan is to have a hotrod that I can cruise across the country with the a/c on if I choose, and still lay down some respectable 1/4 mile times.
Is the Borg Warner S480 a good selection? Or do I need to dial back the constant urge for overkill.
I'm pushing 50 and everything's paid off, so I figured that it's time to throw some money at the project that I meant to finish a long time ago.

That turbo would compliment the setup very nicely. I had a S480 92mm 1.10 ar turbo on my car and am making the switch to a Billet S480 96mm 1.32 ar. I don't have the car running yet this year but the S480/6.0 u is a popular combo that works very well.

I have a BW S-480 billet wheel 96mm 1.10 on my L92 and just went 140 @ 3500+ lbs. I drive the car everywhere. For cam I have a JFR (stock48) and I highly recommend it.

Here's a pass of it from last weekend.

Thank you both, let me know what you think of that 1.32ar when you can. I am very curious about that also.

My 1.10 is suppose to support 1300 hp. The looser a/r would support more than that. On a street car I'd stick with the 1.10. Call Jose at Forced inductions (or one of the other vendors) and see what he has to offer. Main thing is to have a hp goal for the car and go from there.

I was just reading a thread by Phil99vette. He was suggesting that by changing the hotside configuration, you can increase the velocity of the exhaust, allowing a bigger AR, so I was curious about Redrockets experience with the 1.32. I'm sure that the 1.10 will work great for my application.

I run a 2" hot-side to try and keep the velocity up. Key is make sure you get the right cam and converter. If you're going with a 4L80 I'd go with a yank converter (JFR sells those too).

My hotside is divided 2.25" and had no trouble spooling the old S480. I would think the new one will spool similarly, if not slightly quicker, due to the billet wheel.

My knowledge is severely limited on turbo applications so I really appreciate hearing about the personal experiences of others. I would like to end up with a setup that makes me happy for a long time. Please let me know how the 1.32 goes.

You would be fine with the cast wheel S480. It will blow up that motor way before you maxed the turbo. And it's a fair bit cheaper. For comparison, all the times in my sig are with the cast wheel non race cover S480, and it has made 931whp thru th400, 9", and the generic cheap china 4" intercooler. 21psi.

Doitjusdoit, I have the exact set up you're asking about in my car which is also the exact body style as yours.

Is it a GEN III motor, or a GEN IV motor?
