Default [VR] Vengeance Racing Pushes Callaway C6 Z06 to 705rwhp!

Callaway Corvettes have always produced a very nice OEM-like package for the Corvette including a very strong supercharger system for the enthusiast wanting a bit more power than the stock platforms were delivered with. However, there always comes the time when even a supercharged LS7 is just not enough for the owner. That was the case with this particular customer who visited us all the way from Mississippi with his black Callaway Z06. It all started with a visit to our facility and for him to get a first hand look at exactly what we do here at Vengeance Racing. From that moment on, the horsepower bug was there and we discussed several options to bring out the potential in the current setup of the car while still retaining many of the OEM components in the car such as the bottom end and drivetrain.

The first issue to be addressed, as it is with most of our customers, was to replace the OEM camshaft with a custom-grind PD blower camshaft that offered a nice lope at idle while still being very driveable. For this, we opted for our VRPD-2 which is a 231/239 .645"/.660" 118+4. This camshaft offers the classic camshaft sound that most desire, but keeps surging and driveability issues found with larger camshafts to a minimum. At the time of the camshaft install, we also assisted with supporting valvetrain modifications such as a set of CompCams 850 lifters, Vengeance Racing dual valve springs and hardened pushrods, and a Katech C5R timing chain. Lastly to top off the valvetrain, we installed a set of our WCCH Stage II CNC ported cylinder heads and a set of ARP cylinder head bolts. A set of American Racing 1 7/8" longtube headers were also added to help the engine breathe with the additional air coming in.

The next item to tackle on the build was getting the supercharger to work a bit harder than it was with the base pulley combination provided by Callaway. For this, we installed an Innovator's West 10% overdrive balancer as well as the Lingenfelter 14-Rib rear drive kit and adjustable tensioner. This would keep belt slip to a minimum while also increasing the boost level in the car. We also installed a set of Injector Dynamics 850cc fuel injectors, Lingenfelter C6 fuel pump module, and AlkyControl dual nozzle methanol injection system to help fuel the higher power level as well as maintain intake air temperatures. To hold this additional power, we also included a Lingenfelter ZR1 twin-disc clutch kit to keep pedal feel like OEM while still being able to handle the additional power and torque from our package.

Lastly, our customer wanted to monitor the engine of the car while also enhancing aesthetic appeal of the interior. For this, we used Autometer's dual gauge pillar pod with a set of Cobalt series gauges. The customer opted for both a fuel pressure gauge and boost gauge to always ensure that the supercharged LS7 was running in peak condition.

The end result was a very streetable 705rwhp street car that performed and sounded as good as it looks. This car will be used for everything from a weekend cruise to trips down the drag strip, and this combination made for a very functional and high horsepower Z06. We are glad to report that a month after the build the customer is very happy with the results and the car is performing flawlessly! If you would like to look into a performance package for your C6 Z06 whether it be naturally aspirated, supercharged, or any other custom combination, please contact us today for us to put together a package to bring out the potential in your performance build!
