BEATNU is Getting Twins From Huron Speed
#22
A lot has happened since I started this. I was medically retired from the Army after 16 years of service with a 100% disability rating. I moved across the country. Took a job as an engine builder for a local performance shop. I am finally getting around to finishing this up.
So, a quick catch up - I had to get new wrist pins as the ones I had were not what I was supposed to have and then had it rebalanced and new rod bolts I switched to a Gen 3 LQ4 block as well with new ARP2000 head studs. Big oil cooler added. weight reduction has begun.
I sent the hotside out to Swain Tech to get coated.
Here is the hotside all mocked up
The block is at our body shop waiting to get sprayed with some bright red.
Got the oil pan set up, thinking of fabricating a heat shield to go down the sides. Lingenfelter oil block that will feed my oil cooler, temp gauge, and turbos.
New intake showed up too

Lots of frustration in the last few months. Surgery on my both hands / wrists / elbows. Also found the machine shop fucked up my new block - none of the bores are round and are pretty damn inconsistent cylinder to cylinder. So now the court case is in the works.....sigh....Going to try to get them to pay for having it bored / honed again and new pistons and new balancing since the rest of the block has already been worked / machined.
FINALLY progress has resumed. Brought my block to Goodwin Competition to have them straighten it out. Needed to go from 4.005 to 4.010 to make them round and true. That required some custom Wiseco Pistons. Took the opportunity to go from an 8cc dish to a 20cc dish to bring the compression down to a manageable 9.7ish.I am finally assembling the engine. After a 2 hour delay in grinding / drilling out a broken thread chaser (that was all the way in) I got the rotating assembly done. Tomorrow I plan to finish the long block.

Sorry to hear about the obstacles, but it's good to see that you're making progress again.

Another day in the shop, got the long block finished up. The rockers have the trunion upgrade. Added the Improved Racing oil pump pickup clamp as well. Monday morning I am driving to Baileigh Industrial to pick up their RDB-10 tubing bender so I can get started on bending up all the hard lines I will be using for the gates and such.

How long did the trunion upgrade take? I've been thinking about doing that on my car.

So basically a Saturday day for a DIYer with a bench vise? I think I got this.

Been busy last few days. First I made braided stainless fuel lines to go from the fuel rails to the regulator. Then decided to bend hard lines for them. Still don't know which I like more. Also bent up steam vent lines. The hard lines will either get polished, anodized, or painted. not sure yet. Really put my Baileigh Industrial tubing bender to work today lol.

Some progress over the last few days. Did a LOT of cleaning. The engine cradle was covered in oil and the rest of the front suspension was just dirty. Have a little more work to do on the suspension, and when I finish cleaning up the cradle I am going to bead blast it to make it all pretty. Clearanced the engine mount brackets and engine mount. Started mocking up the cold side as well. New knock sensor delete valley cover came in as well. Tomorrow I should finish cleaning up the engine cradle. I plan to remove all the excess casting flash and all the crap that was not completely removed during machining.

Today's progress. Mocked up the intercooler and duct. Not much more to be done for a few days, waiting on a bunch of lines and fittings for the vacuum/oil systems. Decided to break out the threaded insert kit and go to town. Also plan to seal the intercooler duct to the intercooler better with rubber flaps.
