Default BEATNU is Getting Twins From Huron Speed

So I have been thinking of making the switch from a big shot of nitrous to boost for a while now. Just wasn't happy with how often I would be replacing the rings on a 400 shot. Plus it is a little iffy if I would be able to achieve my goal of 9.0 with a manual trans even on that 400 shot. What finally made me pull the trigger was being able to take advantage of Huron Speed's C5 Twin Turbo kit with an incredible sponsorship deal.

Little background on the car....It is a true street car and my daily driver. I put an easy 12,000 miles on it a year as I drive the hell out of it. I even pull a trailer with it to and from the track. Currently it has a 402 LS2 with CNC LS3 top end, 11.5:1 c/r. Callies Compstar crank and rods, Wiseco pistons. 235/250 .620/.596 115+4 cam, 2" Kooks headers with 3" x 3" catless X-pipe. Naaaasty Nitrous Outlet direct port kit with custom stand alone fuel system. Built M6 T56, built C5 3 rib diff with C6 Z06 internals and 3.90 gears. It makes an estimated 520whp or so NA. Also has a custom return-style fuel system with single walbro 450 in-tank pump.

Now, for the changes that I will be making to accommodate the twin Precision 6766 CEAs .96 A/R as I shoot for 1,000 - 1,100 whp....

I am going from Cometic 4.085 .040 compressed thickness head gaskets to GM LS9 head gaskets. This will drop my compression from 11.5 - 11.07 making it more pump gas friendly - I will be running pump gas for a few months until I move from NC to WI and then switch to e85.

I am going to be going to a twin walbro 450 in-tank pump. I will have to fabricate this myself as I have the early style fuel tanks. Will be upgrading to either a -8 or -10 supply line and keeping the -6 return line.

Upgrading from Siemmens 60# Deka injectors to Fuel Injection Clinic 1650s.

Not sure if I am going to use my current cam or have one specc'd by BTR.

I will be changing out the rings as they are currently gapped for a 400 shot (028 / .025). Looking at gapping them at .022 / .024.

Future upgrades - possibly this winter or next summer - include a new aluminum radiator and SPAL fans, Swain Tech White Lightning coated hotside and either powder coated or polished cold side.

I will be starting the tear down this week, looking to have the engine out and apart by Monday so I can bring the block to a machine shop and have the cylinders checked out to see if they need to be cleaned up any for the new rings to seal.

Now for all the engine and car ****....

Parts started arriving yesterday....I wasn't expecting this one as I didn't have tracking info for it. I do have 4 boxes from Huron Speed due Saturday and 1 box from BTR (goodies I bought) arriving today.

Alrighty, 4 more boxes showed up today. I have most of the hot side, most of the cold side, and a good portion of the clamps.

Everything looks amazing, I am very impressed with the quality of the kit.

I was going to begin tear down today, but it is approaching 115* outside and in the garage....so to hell with that haha.

Got a late start today so I didn't get nearly as much done as I wanted to. On top of that I had to pack up the headers and X-pipe to be shipped as they are pending sale. Plus it is hot as hell out again.

Here we begin....

So far today I drained the trans, diff, radiator, engine oil, and A/C. Still need to drain the coolant in the block, but that will wait until tomorrow. Then the entire exhaust came out (minus the cat back, that will come out after I pull the trans and diff out). From there I pulled the Vararam, power duct, and MAF; unhooked the fuel lines, nitrous lines, pulled the fuel rails and nitrous rails and intake manifold. I started to get some of the nitrous wiring out but will have to wait until I get the engine out to get all of it out. My goal for tomorrow is to have the trans, diff, rear suspension, torque tube and clutch out clutch. Once that is done I will strip the front of the engine, pull the radiator and condenser, ABS module, starter, hood, and have the engine ready to pull on Wednesday morning.

I am a few days behind the time line I set for myself, but as long as I have the block to the machine shop this week I will be fine. I will fabricate the custom dual fuel pump hanger while the block is at the machine shop. Plus I am still waiting on the new cam and springs to come in before I could do assembly anyway.

As Day 2 comes to a close I realize I over did it a little in the heat....feel like crap and will have to skip Jiu-Jitsu tonight....Made up a lot of time today, the only thing I didn't get done that I wanted to was taking the hood off but that is quick and easy.

The engine is stripped down and ready to be pulled.

Also got the diff, trans, rear cradle, torque tube, and clutch out.

Size: 240.1 KB

When I pulled the clutch, my heart sank a little...Going to clean it up a little better and give it a good inspection, but I think it may be time to replace it.

Think I might look around for a Monster LT-1S, heard a lot of good things about it.

So I took yesterday off since I over did it a little in the heat on Tuesday. Engine is now out and I am about to tear it down. Then the block is off to the machine shop to get checked out. Should begin reassembly next week.

Normally I don't pull the front end off to pull the engine, but since I have to do it to install the intercooler, it just made sense to do it before pulling the engine.

Engine is tore down and ready to go to the machine shop tomorrow morning. I will be getting new lifters as half of them failed. Will post pics of them once I clean everything up. Will be sending in the paperwork for a custom grind from BTR tonight.

Yesterday I ordered a Monster LT1-R twin disc that is rated to 1200whp.

Tomorrow my goal is to have the entire nitrous system out.

Had most of the stuff I need to start fabricating the dual Walbro 450 hanger. Couple fittings still en-route but I can get started without them. Sorry, no pics of that until it is done and the patent paperwork is filed. I have a fairly large player in the LS community interested in carrying it.

Here is my little buddy enjoying a ride a few months ago

Clutch came in last night. Monster LT1-R twin disc, rated to 1200wheel lb-ft. I got it with the 28lb flywheel. total assembly weighs 50lbs. The 28lb flywheel is going to make launching easier than the 18lb flywheel I had before.

Machine shop called, should be able to pick up the block today from getting the cylinder walls cleaned up a little. He only had to hone out between .001 - .0015. Will increase my PTW a little, but that small of an increase doesn't concern me.

Making progress on the custom dual 450 fuel pump hanger. should have it done in a week or so.

Have a custom grind from BTR on order along with new lifters and spring kit.

I will probably assemble the short block tomorrow then bag it until I get the oil pan, cam, lifters, and spring kit then finish the long block.

Not much progress...Picked up the engine block a few days ago. Fixed my engine stand and got the engine on it. Gonna drop the cradle when I get the short block assembled so I can do the mock up and fitment outside of the car.

My new BTR Platinum spring kit came in along with my new lifters - half of my old lifters were broken.

I have finally decided on a boost controller, going to go with the Autometer Boost Controller. It has everything I want and it looks to have a very nice boost by gear function that uses your VSS and RPM inputs to determine gear range and spread so it knows for sure what gear you are in at all times.
