Cam is a Martin Smallwood specc'd stick, specifically for the same motor but with the old S88 with a 96mm turbine and 1.32 A/R. New turbo is the Garrett obviously, 88mm Billet wheel, 111.5 turbine. 1.08 A/R.

Heads are just AFR 205's with some light port work.
Unless you are packing LOTS of cubic inches, you are asking a lot of your motor if it's sub 400ci....I'm thinking you would need closer to 427+ to get that quick spool action you are looking for.

Is it a genuine GT55 garrett unit or is it a CRT HP8811??
It's this one..I guess it's CRT's wheel?

I bought this turbo knowing the cam wouldn't be perfectly suited. I guess I'll just have to run her at the track and see how it does. Seems to make great power once it's spooled.

I'm planning on doing the 94mm compressor wheel swap and going to the 1.40 housing down the road. At that point I'll go ahead and grab a new cam.

Current cam specs are 233/233 duration, .632/.632 lift on a 115+4.

Which GT55 is it? based off of a GTX5518R, or just the regular GT series.

Compression makes a huge difference. Like John said, valve events in the camshaft can also dictate spool time.

I have heard people give varying reports. I have no first hand knowledge. Have you done any comparisons with compression being the only variable?

I couldn't tell you which one it's based off. I'm sure spool would improve if I changed cams.

This is a vid from when I was running the old FI s88. As you can see, spool time was a night and day difference from the new Garrett.

20psi pull - YouTube
Didn't really see a difference in spool. This is unrelated, but that oil pressure drop during the pull was scary looking.

Yeah, the oil pressure drop was related to a faulty sending unit. Good eye, man. I just did away with the factory sender and installed a mechanical gauge.

I feel like the Garrett spools much slower..maybe it's just my imagination. Either way, I'm happy I switched. Much more room for improvement with the new turbo.

I honestly don't think its that bad.. Being an auto car it'll stay making boost on gear changes. That's my opinion though.

Oh, I agree. It's 75% drag car, so as long as I can get it to spool well with the two step, I should be fine at the track.

Haven't tried it yet. Lol. The car is still down in Texas in my storage unit, and I'm up in Colorado. Hopefully I'll be able to get it next month. Just haven't had time since I moved.

Ah gotcha, I'm used to bolt together stuff.. where we can tailor the converter without having to send it back.

I see. Yeah, the trans has about 4 years on it...could probably use a freshening, but I don't plan on dumping any more money into it just yet. Lol.

Rossler definitely seems to know what they're doing...I don't have any complaints.

Rossler is a good company, we had a Rossler glide in the old car and went with Rodney at RPM and haven't looked back since. both are good companies
